I've been tempted to brew this several times - but I couldn't bear to use that much sugar - or hop that low
What I'd considered was 4kg of Malturop and a handful of Roast Barley - or do you reckon a 2 or 3% of caramalt or pale crystal too ?
Maybe 20gm Mot @ 60 and then 20gm @ 10 and 1
I reckon leave the caramalt out and use maybe 5-10% sugar, but definately not that much!! The sugar will have its place to thin the beer out and make it a quaffer I guess? I try not to ever go past 5% sugar tho unless im doing a belgian...
And heres the other beer for Saturday its a Hybrid Blonde sort of a thing, I hopping for a light coloured hoppy beer with loads of balls meaning mouthfeel and loads of balls meaning hops (Chinook bitterness it is bad arse) so its called
Blonde Balls
82% Golden Promise
10% Flaked Wheat
8% Carapils
67 Deg Mash
15Ibu Chinook @ 60
15Ibu Chinook @ 30
30g Simcoe @ 15 And @ 0
15g Amarillo @ 15 And @ 0
15g US Cascade 15 and @ 0
1.055 - 1.012 5.6%
55Ibu
Hopefully 1272, But I have enough WLP001 Spinnig to get this thing under way!! Also with my standard water adjustments
Flaked Wheat from Common Sense organics, along with Flaked Rye but no Flaked Maized yet thank Fuck!! But they do have flaked rice but I turned my nose up to that.
Cant be arsed searching through this forum at the moment but im having My Little Brown IPA at the moment and I think it pretty good not convinced yet as it only been forced carbed, but on the note of Flaked stuff, it has given it some wicked body, water is a little enamel ripping I will fix that and the just brushed my teeth is OTT SG/IBU ratio!! Im still on early days of this beer so I will see how it pans out over the next few weeks and make my adjustments over winter as I can see myself drinking alot of this. Also the 4 C Hops are the Bollocks!!
Opps we are talking about Maize!! Nah I havnt had the need yet when I make a low alc low body beer maybe?? Im just not yet ready for it, but hey inspire me like you did your littleipa!! If you cant find flaked rye up there I will send you some.
Also it the WLP002 version and man it got some Horns!! 1.043 - 1.015 3.5% still 'early days' I remind myself
Definately early days mate, once all those malt flavours start coming out it will become surprisingly balanced.. Im just interested to see if it will hide the extreme bitterness?? You might have to send me a bottle? ;oP lol
