First beer of the case swap, pulled out at random.

Nice malty aroma - pleasent, warm caramel/toffee notes, followed with a hint of toastiness. Some nice fruity esters come through when it starts to warm a little.

Big, burly malt flavour, and a solid bitterness, well balanced. Some fruity esters, a little earthiness from the hops too, maybe a slight touch of alcohol. Loving the malt character in this, really nice and solid.

Carbonation level is great, a little bigger than medium in body but there's enough dryness to carry it through.

Becoming a lot more complex as it starts to warm.

Nothing wrong with this, but I think it would benefit if it had fermented out a touch more, even just one or two points.

Good work brother. Actually reminds me a bit of Bitter and Twisted at Galbraith's.
Cheers mate. I totally agree with you re the finishing gravity - recipe was designed to finish two points lower, but it just wouldn't drop that far.
Last case swap beer for me.. not a bad one to go out on.

The bottle didn't last long. as I really liked that big fat chewy body backed up by that classic dry bitterness... Southern Cross does a great job at making the bitterness bite at you.

Earthy woody fruity chewy biscutty caramelly toffee... pretty complex flavours going on in there.

A big malty kick in the pants followed by a solid lingering bitterness. Carbonation and mouthfeel are spot on. A very nice beer.

Too my taste the follow through is a touch too bitter - just my preference to lean a bit more on the malty side in an ESB.

PS: Gets my vote for 'Best Named Beer'
Tuesday was a hard day, but the night has certainly picked up.

Pours a orangy amber colour with a thick creamy head. Good carbonation which keeps feeding the creamy head.... I got a head moustache to go with my goatie! Laces nicely through the stages of emptying the first glass.

Nose has carmel / toffee hints of orange peel and maybe lemon zest. Nice roasty burnt aroma, touch of ghana chocolate.

Mouth is the fullest out of all the beers so far, quite heavy to me, but not a disadvantage. The flavour is similar to espresso in nature, but not coffee. Some citrus, and a little saw dust(?).

This is a good beer, my wife and Mother both enjoyed some of the first glass... I went out to the garage to savour the last... thanks Alasdair I'm going to try the recipe myself (and get browny points from wife.... chur!)
Dark amber with a light haze. Sweet, malty, sweaty pear and dark dried fruit, a very mild bitterness and a little show of alcohol at the end. Great beer. Something you're unlikely to get commercially unless you pop down to Moutere and have a few pints of Townshend. Wish I had another bottle. I like this yeast, it's quite funky.

Simple, sublimely restorative. A fine Strong English Mild. I don't think a Lord would be drinking this, probably a coal miner. So on that note I present "Lord" Lee Dorsey...

Pours a solid amber sort of colour. Nice looking in the glass, maybe a little hazy.

Sweetness on the nose, i guess mostly MO inspired. Reminds me a lot of the Townshend Dinner Ale.
Pear drop style sweetness to the flavour and hints of rosewater/turkish deligh.

Poured a lightly hazy, copper colour with an off-white head. Aroma of bread, caramel, toffee, sweet candy and a definite English yeast character. There's also a whole grain toast thing going on in there (Vogel's Ancient Grain maybe). Maybe a slight sourness in the aroma also?

Taste has a solid Maris Otter backbone and an equally solid bitterness that lasts all the way in the finish with a hit of earthy hops. English all the way, malt, yeast and hops. A little alcohol in the finish too.

Nice job Al. Another great beer.

copper, kinda hazy but not murky, no head. Nice aroma of fruity english style esters, kinda plummy. bread. tiny hint of hot alcohols I think.
the flavor is toasty, crisp, malty, and very nice. medium strong lingering bitterness.

Pours a slightly hazy honey-amber-brown. Good soft sticky off-white head shows perfect carbonation.
Malty toasty slightly alcoholic on the nose.
The mouthfeel is all malty goodness, toffee, caramel, toasty English goodness. Then it's cut by a firm bitterness. The hop character melds with the malt for a lovely bittersweet finish - ESB heaven.

It feels like it's a tad under attenuated, a little full on malty. And I find the bitterness a little bit rough around the edges, but the beer doesn't suffer much for either. I bet it would be fantastic on handpump.

Drank this one with Sunday dinner of Bitter & Twisted sausages, roasted parsnips, swede mash & peas. Perfect accompaniment. As usual, not read any of the previous notes.

Pours a lovely copper/gold, tending towards mahogany. Head dissipates quickly. Slightly hazy.

I didn't pick up much on the aroma, so I wasn't sure to expect from the first sip. However, it was very yummy. Loads of malt complexity, toasty notes, fruity notes, even a hint of spice in there. All backed up with a little grippy bitterness. Body and mouthfeel at the higher end of the range, but plenty there to carry it.

This is where i was aiming with my KissKissBangBang, but you've pulled it off. Only improvement I could suggest is sorting out the clarity and the head retention a little. Otherwise a very fine beer.
Pours a hazy bright copper colour, big hit of toffee and caramel on the nose with a good yeast character - I might have to try the 1028...

Toffee malt flavour on the palate with a good balance, couldnt pick up on any hop flavours, mainly malt here! Creamy mouthfeel, maybe a bit too full? But drinkable none the less...
