Ok, so What Are You Brewing was a hotty, as topics go.

Now I'm 15 pints into a keg I only filled on Tuesday and wondering if anyone else has a favourite at the moment ?

It's my second brown with US-Oh05 and it's better than the forst, maybe Ikept the temps down a bit during the scorcher we had in januray

Thanks Greig and Dave, I've found this discussion educational, helping me to understand the behaviour of yeasts and the resulting by products (diacetyl). I've been drinking a few Brewski's my old man brought back from Wanaka in April. I hadn't enjoyed the beer as much as the reviews would have led me to think I should with the diacetyl being a new flavour to me - I had the last one a week ago and found it carbed up++. Your conversation here shed light on why this happened and gives me a better understanding for my own brewing. Thanks for your openness Dave about the causes - I, and probably many of your other drinkers, appreciate it.
Funnily enough I tried the Brewski last night, and couldnt get past the corn smell, not sure if thats DMS or from maize? But it didnt smell the same as when ive used maize at home.. Underneath the corn smell and taste it was a pretty good beer, crisp with a good malt character! Not sure how old the bottle was tho
So what happened? Did the brewery change hands?
I've been down in the South Island the last week, and man it is a beer drinkers paradise!

I went to a party on Saturday night and had a rigger of the Harringtons (Emersons-clone) pilsener, and a stout. Pretty good local swill for Christchurch...

Dunedin is another notch above.. Castle Macadam Wine stock a shitload of craft brews. I enjoyed a Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA, an Emersons JP, Oretti Red (current brewers reserve), and this year's Taieri George.

Apart from that I've been drinking shitloads of $7.50 pints of Emersons in Albar, Inch Bar, and Mou Very.

I have to say it, Auckland has a pretty rubbish selection of bars that sell decent beer on tap compared to down south.
Well didnt try the brewski last night in the end, went to dinner with work mates at an indian place which was BYO, so I took a couple of riggers of my IPA, mixed reactions at the table with one guy drinking it like it was the water and one woman almost spitting it out as soon as it hit her tongue haha, people from the next table were saying they could smell citrus and fruit which was pretty cool :o)
"almost spitting it out as soon as it hit her tongue " -haha, I get that a lot with Hopwired. people love the aroma but as soon as it hits the tongue they can't stand the bitterness. it's an acquired taste I always tell them:)
Tonight I'll be drinking the best of whatever the Malthouse and Hashigo have on tap.
First chance to get to Wellington, a week late and a Beervana short.
"a week late and a Beervana short."

Still better than no wellington!! Have fun mate
May see you about Barry, planning on meeting my brother at the malthouse about 5.15pm and also need to get to Hashigo, want to try the punkadiddle if it's still about
That'd be great jt, my flight doesn't arrive til 7 so I'll be around later. I'll PM you with my mobile. Looking forward to drinking some stuff from the tap that isn't on tap in Auckland!
I'd probably be gone - either home or in no fit state - by that time Barry LOL
But sure, worth checking
I was both by the time Barry would have got there ...

A couple of Tuatara's at the malthouse, the pale and american pale

Then off to hasigo to find that the punkadiddle was long gone
So Paradox blonde and then quite excited to see hallertau Copper Tart there, much read about this so great to give it a go. Townshends JC to finish there

back to the Malthouse to round out the evening, pints of mikes iipa

...which was all a bit much for one sitting
