i've been reading about freezing and slanting yeast and i think i'm going to give slanting a go when i get set up for it but it also got me thinking about commercial bottle conditioned beers and possible strains they use for slanting and making starters from!

anyone have any ideas which beers are bottle conditioned? and which yeasts they may use?

i recently had emersons weizenbock which had some yeast left in the bottom but that was before i read about slanting!

any suggestions?

I know there is a link somewhere on the AHB website which says what beers are bottle conditioned and hints at what strains they may use...

About two years ago I recultured some Emersons Dunkelweizen yeast with it and built it up in a starter, made the mean as smoked Dunkelweizen with it, but that was back when I was still into wheat beers so I havn't bothered since...

I've also managed to reculture some 1968 out of three Renaissance Scotch Ale bottles, took a while to kick into life cos there was stuff all in there, but I built it up over time and made a Bourbon Porter with it, won a silver medal in last years NHC too :o)

Coopers is also extremely common, if youre that way inclined...

Cant help you on the slanting side of things, ive only ever recultured and put into a starter to use fairly soon...
Coopers ... f youre that way inclined...

Yes, Mr Cherry recultured Coopers and used it - reckons it needs a coolish ferment
Banana anyone? lol, but I guess if youre into Wheat beers then banana phenols arent gonna put you off...
Here's a useful site which lists bottle conditioned beers, and whether they use their primary yeast for bottling

yeah, i came across this bbut there didn't seem to be too many new zealand beers on there, i was thinking along the lines of emersons, harringtons, rennaisance etc etc
