Interesting - I've not used pale choc without the regular choc, so you could well be right about the flavour. I still think for the sake of colour you'd want to up the dark stuff though, if you have/can get some.
Our pale choc is similar in colour to what the Americans use as their regular choc malt. Our normal choc malt is quite a bit darker.

I prefer pale choc to regular, I always get this weird berry-like flavour with regular chocolate malt, not unpleasant but I still don't want it there.
Regular chocolate always gives me a roasty taste, I don't get it with regular chocolate.

I'd be tempted to use 50% more pale chocolate to give me the same colour, with a bit of flavour, without the regular chocolate roasty-ness

Just started boiling my take on a Vienna lager without vienna malt. Re-jigged the recipe after finding out that Wigram makes theirs with Gladfield Ale Malt for the base.

The Lyle's was to lighten the body of the beer somewhat after Mrs warra complained that all my beers have too much body. I don't agree, but we need to humour our better halves for the sake of peace.
Knocking this out either before or just after the weekend, something easy for my mates to drink at my bday whilst at the same time cleaning out a few ingrediants - im really trying to get through all the old malt that I have lying around so I can get some fresh stuff cranking again!! Its actually quite a task but the good thing about it is it has me brewing different types of beers again!
