Ok, so What Are You Brewing was a hotty, as topics go.

Now I'm 15 pints into a keg I only filled on Tuesday and wondering if anyone else has a favourite at the moment ?

It's my second brown with US-Oh05 and it's better than the forst, maybe Ikept the temps down a bit during the scorcher we had in januray

Hallertau statesman. Tasting fantastic this afternoon. Had a cheeky snifter of stuntman before I left too, dangerously drinkable bitter and hoppy resinous. Yummo.
Twisted Hop IPA - American hop extravagance with a nice malt balance
Twisted Hop Sauvin Pils - Maybe a little off form tonight. Might have been the warm up pint of IPA, or maybe the fact the 3 boys GA has stolen a sauvin benchmark. lacked a little hop crispness

Well, im feeling a bit hazy this morning, but not too bad considering...

Had a great afternoon in the sun drinking cream ale, pilsner, and then eventually english IPA, my mates managed to polish off 3 kegs in a matter of 5 hours lol - i guess its a sign that my beer must be getting better as their previous best was 2 kegs in a night? lol
Brewing always makes me thirsty, so last night was:

Left Hand Brewing Co. JuJu Ginger - excellent stuff. I definitely want to brew an alcoholic ginger beer for the summer. Passed the wife test too!
Janet's Brown Ale - has been in the keg for 3 weeks now and really starting to hits its straps.
Half a bottle of Heron's Flight red with dinner (Bitter & Twisted sausages - yum)
Ninkasi Total Domination IPA - really sad that this is the last bottle I have of this, and unlikely to see any more in the near future. Well-balanced hoppy goodness.
Grandad Joe's Gold Label - my barley wine has been in the bottle for 10 months now and this example was tasting good. Some of the sweetness seems to have fallen away a little.

Slightly dusty today.
Late Sunday trip to the local foodtown has me sipping on a Fullers London Porter. Was expecting a tired piece of shit, but surprisingly it's pretty darn tasty. Subtle roasty with chewy caramel and earthy hop balance. It's nowhere near a fresh Emersons Porter but it's still pretty good - balanced and very drinkable.
OK ... WBC day today...

13 entries, all good efforts, long day, assisted by epic pale ale (control beer), tired now, good night.

Honestly, massive props to all who took part- thanks guys! Good fun and great people- Looking forward to the Stout comp @ Malthouse on 31/01/10

Agreed. Steph, Jonny's and "Mystery Brewer X" award winning beer was pretty stunning! Good to finally meet some of you, I'm sure there were a number of others I never got to say hi too.

Twisted Hop IPA, Sauvin Pils, Challenger and Goldings Bitter over the weekend. IPA and Sauvin were tops.

PKB Remix.
Here here! Thank to Colin for hosting. Everyone should be proud of their beer but be ready to up the ante for next time. Dry Stout, a tough nut to crack... save some over for St Patricks Day!

Well done Mr Cherry and Mr Cooper for a couple of very good runners up. And to everyone else who put their heart on their sleeve and their beer out there to be 'judged'. It is scary, I know, but is the most important step to becoming the best brewer you can be.

I'm going to enter next time... to challenge my brewing process over summer (and so I have a good excuse to have fun and not judge)...

But next time I judge (if I'm ever invited again) may I say that I am going to smash you all for not judging to style.

Thanks Mike for organising. Awesome day...
But next time I judge (if I'm ever invited again) may I say that I am going to smash you all for not judging to style.

Hahaha, as in the North, so in the South. The WBCs truly are twins!
Sorry, i actually meant brewing to style... there were a lot of dinstinctly non APA beers there. Some nice American Strong Ales, and Amber Ales and IPAs. The one beer that really struck me as a definite APA was such a shock that I actually wrote "to style" on the judging sheet.
But some were surely better than an APA!! I know, I know, the training wheels was one of the culprits.
Sounds like a new style Steph, BTAPA ;-)

Maybe I need to change tack and adopt the whole "Better than" approach. I feel a Better Than Dry Stout coming on.
