haha that's a technique that came to mind this weekend, after the sparge was finished! Am using a 60L pot which is too big for my gas cooker, but is big enough to cover 2 elements on the stove top, which is what I use. I've ordered a kettle from craftbrewer but there are some difficulties in getting it shipped over, hopefully will be resolved soon enough.
the morebeer system is amazingly forgiving of grain size - i've never had anything even remotely resembling a stuck sparge even with wheat beers.
A brew day would be great, no doubt there's shyte loads of tips i could pick up.
Gonna brew this mid-week for western brewers comp..
3.3kg Global Pilsner - Would have liked to have used Maris but you make do with what youve got..
900g Munich
130g Cara-Red
130g Dark Crystal
85g Cara-Aroma
45g Melanoidin (for extra maltiness - 1%???)
65g Roast Barley
Crushed my malt for the irish red last night, grist was looking pretty good!
Also got this crushed - Sort of veering away from Blande Ale territory but it should be a nice way to figure out what im getting from Motueka with a nice malt backbone - JT's words were with me when I was weighing up and I threw 25g's of dark malt for colour - this is my recipe
OG - 1045, IBU's - 34
2.5kg Pils
800g Munich
120g CaraMunich III
25g Carafa Special III
250g Cane Sugar - Caramelised/inverted with some wort
60 : 20g Motueka 6.7%
20 : 25g Motueka 6.7%
FO : 10g Motueka 6.7%
WLP-001
Checked OG and pitched 1469, got 1050 at 21 litres 73% eff...
Lately ive been getting between 73 and 77% fairly consistently, no longer hitting high numbers and I dont know why.. Im not too worried as long as my results are still consistent, but would be nice to know what changed lol
