Interesting brew day, BIAB is pretty awesome - that Reviled could pack up his kit and bring it to my place and brew is so cool. My kit would need a flat-deck truck to move around.
But yeah, little bit hit and miss. We were both too busy talking about beer and brewing...
interesting...how did the brew times compare? guess you would be going a bit leisurely. And Barry, what did you think of Sale St and their beers?
Oh yeah, I'll have to revisit that thread and post my tasting notes/impressions....
timing was pretty similar. we were taking it leisurely for sure. I think Tyler was done boiling 10 minutes before me, but he was packed up with a cube of wort in the car and I still had a bunch of cleanup to do!
Hey I still had to clean everything when I got home!! Plus I also cheated and skipped the mash out, so we probably would have finished around the same time if I did that step...

Was so cool tho, packing a cube of wort into the car and driving away :o)
Just looking at the Loads of Hops that have turned up here today. Looks like it's a 2 brew weekend Im thinking
First brew marris and light crysal with all large and late additions of Amarillo Cascade and Simcoe. Going to Aim for 1.055 and 40ibus, S05 or 1056 after saying i never realy use it lol:)

Second a marris, crystal and a hint of chocolate, with early and late additions of Fuggles and Styrian.
Aiming for 1.045 and 40ibus S04, Bliss.
Change of Plan After I had a shocker with my IAPA racking to a cube, Flowers everywhere stuck siphons and and tap. So am Brewing this

5kg Bohemian Pilsner
130g Cara Pils

60g US Cascade Plugs (in a Stocking!!!!!) @ 15
10g Nelson Sauvin @ 15
30g US Cascade Pellets @ 10
10g Nelson Sauvin @ 0
30g US Cascade Pellets @ 0
10g Centenial @ 0

US 05

66deg Mash

Gutted about the IAPA!!
Belgian Pale Ale

87.5% ADM Pils
7% Munich II
5% Caramuncih II
0.5% Carafa II

1.050, 23ibu (all Sauvin at 60min). 66c mash for one hour and a one hour boil.

Split across two fermenters. White Labs 500 (Chimay?) in one and White Labs 550 (Achouffe?) in the other.
I've just made the clear Belgian Candi which I'll use for a post-xmas belgian brew. The stir plate is fully operational so I'll be propagating a Chimay yeast soon.
I've heard Chimay are now bottle-conditioning with a different yeast to their fermenter. Might want to check that out.

I'll probably play around with a stronger Belgian style or two in the new year but I'm not sure quite what it'll be yet.
Arse, you're probably right.

Does anyone know of an available Dubbel which is a safer bet for propagating the yeast?

Stu, if you're around and are comfortable with the infection risk I could always harvest a bit of your WLP500.
You are welcome. i'm going to take some for my brother and for Brendon also. Hopefully there will be some left for me too!

It looks like a slow starter. The 550 was bubbling nicely this morning (18c) and 500 was doing nothing (17c). I remember Richard Emerson mentioning that the yeast was very slow when he hosted a tasting of the first year's JP trials.
It looks like Westmalle might condition with their primary yeast. If I can find some I might have a crack tonight.
