Pump

I have decided I ned a pump. It needs to pump boiling wort and be sturdy. Flowrate, maybe 5L/min or so, maybe less can do it, I don't know...? I would like to be able to whirlpool with it eventually.

What are you going to use it for? I was just reading the link you sent and was starting to reconsider my far-off dream of the whirlpool chiller. Please update with how you get on using it.

hi, i am going to whirlpool my mashtun ,with a 1500w heat exchanger and one of the fish tank pumps
and then it will be used to whirlpool the boil kettle

That's a good cheap alternative! I may have to go looking for one just for interest sake, the submersion in water would need to be a little more permanent if it was going to be part of a brew stand.

I have a used March pump that I am no longer using. The spot welds on the mounting plate have come apart - shouldn't be too hard to put back together. BSP threads. Open to reasonable offers if anyone is interested.

We ended up going with a washing-machine pump - had it's first outing today and was all good! Didn't need priming or anything, just started it up and away we went. Flow control was just by means of slowing the flow from the tun to the pump, and had no dramas at all. If you can whip one out of an old washing machine, a soak in some cleaner and a good rinse/sanitise and it should be all good.

hi, i have been looking at them to ,but what i have read is when you check the flow it loads up the pump and in time it blows the seals?
was thinking of putting a fan speed controler ( trade me $22.00) on ,may work
the march pump and the fish tank pumps both use magnetc drive, so you can load them up with out loading the seals
PS not that i know what i am talking about ,but this all came from brewers in the usa who have used non mag drive pumps .but we are kiwis we can do it. look at VDOG he is working with a washing pump, and it is working.

With that sort of pumpe restricting in-flow might be an option.
