A Scottish Ale today. First double batch using the new 80ltr brew kettle. Managed it with my 30ltr HLT, but it wasn't easy. I'll have to upgrade to a 56ltr HLT soon.
45ltr Batch
8.59Kg Global Kolsch
0.95kg Munich
190gm Crystal 40L
100gm Roasted barley
60gm Chocolate
45mt Mash at 70C
50gm NZ Golding First Wort Hop
60 mt Boil
60gm NZ Golding @ 15
50gm NZ Golding @ 5
35gm NZ Golding @ Flameout
OG 1.056
Split Batch with half US-05 and half S-04

The brew tower is taking shape but still a lot of work to be done on it. Next will be electronic control of the HLT and digital readouts for the Mash Tun and Brew Kettle.

The brew tower is looking pretty smart! Whats your plans for elec control of the HLT?
Imho you cant beat the guy on trade me selling PID controllers with sensor SSR and a heatsink for around ~$100ish! obviously it would require a bit of DIY but judging by your tower you are no stranger to figuring things out.
This guy is one of the top sellers on eBay:

And these mini controllers can handle up to 10 amps and can control heating and cooling just like a tempmate, but a lot cheaper. About US$32 which with the current exchange rate works out to about NZ$41 including freight. One of these plus a couple of the Digital Temperature Panel Meters that he sells for just over US$20 and I should have a pretty good control panel. And these prices include the sensors.
Once I get it all finished I'll get the steelwork hot dip galvanised and it'll look real purdy.
Owwww this looks really interesting! I'm keen to buy a couple of these too! What does this one do which the other one doesn't? I'm just bit confused...
Just bottled 3L of my Savvy Llama NZPA.
Added a small amount of priming sugar (enough for about 1.5 volumes CO2) and the dregs of a bottle of Mikkeller Yeast Series Brettanomyces from the tasting at Hashigo last night.

This'll be a fun one in a few months time, provided the bottles survive (FG was 1.012) Now that I think of it I should've put one bottle in plastic so I could keep track of the carbonation...

The remaining 16L or so got 25g of Sauvin dry hops.
Lovely day down here so thought I'd brew something to get the stocks up as I forsee a lack of brewing opportunity in the next 3 weeks. Named with inspiration from Greig

A Golden Mt Zion

Global Cologne 65%
Gladfields Pale 35% - using up the last of this
50g of Rakau in the mash tun for 12IBU, or so beersmith says
5g Rakau at 60
5g each Nelson Sauvin and Rakau at 30
10g each Sauvin and Rakau at 10 and 5
1g per L of each at 0
S-05

OG 1.050 IBU 43.6, but having mash hopped before I don't think the mash hopping will give 12IBU so perhaps slightly less than this
Looking forward to brewing my standard NZ Pale Ale in the weekend, now that my all grain set-up is pretty much complete. Nice new dial thermometer installed in my mashtun and electric element in my HLT are all ready to go.

Also, just got my first order from Liberty - what great, prompt service with email updates etc. Thanks Jo!
All weighed out for tomorrow - 715 - a very light brown
A repeat of the last brown, but lower gravity, higher IBU so 1.033 and 31 IBU
Roughly 10% caramalt and medium crystal, 3.5% chocolate and pale chocolate and a smidge of black
Sauvin to bitter and then the cascade, hallertau, motueka combo at 20 10 & 1
110% you been sampling WAY too much on the bottling line dude! hee hee
What sort of rice is that crabbey? ... and why are you adding it? flavour?
Any preparation require for the rice or just straight into the mash? Cereal mash?
