I just sent 10 entries (20 bottles) in 2 beerstore boxes from Dunedin to Hamilton with fastway couriers.  Cost me $60.  ($30 per box.)

Who do you use to send your beer?  How much did it cost?  What are the chances of them breaking it?

I had a tough time deciding on catogories for a few of them... mainly American pale ales that I had upped the malt and hops on but (perhaps??) not enough to get to American IPA levels.  In the end I went with calling them APA's because the OG's were just inside the range.

Next year I might brew a few beers for the competition rather than just entering beers that I have happened to have brewed.

I entered

3x NZ pilsners

1x American IPA

2x American PA

1x other smoked beer

1x American Brown Ale

1x American Porter

1x American Amber Ale

Definately an American theme there - but they seem to be the styles I really enjoy the most. (so far)

What did you enter?

One thing which is important when deciding which category to enter your beer is remember to ignore everything you know about your beer, and just taste it, with the style guide in front of you. The judges don't know what the OG was, or what the ABV is, or what yeast you used. All they know is that the beer presented to them is supposed to be an APA, and that's how they will judge it. If they feel it tastes like an APA, it will do well, even if you KNOW it only had an OG of 1.038! :)
