His Majesty being delivered shortly by a mate of mine where we will have dinner and proceed with a royal ceremony and the christening of a Kingly beer. I'm almost giggling like a girl! That smallest of tastes I had at Beervana has left me eagerly waiting for this moment...
Just had my first glass of my dry hopped weizenbock.
Damn... this is a complex brew. I'm impressed - and I reckon I have left the Schneider Hopfen Weisse in my dust. Hopfen Weisse stuffed up because they dry hopped with heaps of Noble hops... and the brew ended up tasting soapy. There wasn't enough bitterness to carry the amount of residual sweetness either.
Mine smells like juicy fruit chewing gum... peaches... bananas... clove... and pears. It doesn't smell sweet though. In the palate, there is a decent amount of body from the Global Dark Caramel (this is great stuff) hints of candied flambe'd pears when used with the wlp300. The Simcoe and Centennial work well together in these small amounts to offer tropical fruit contributions in this beer. Then there is a dense bitterness to hold the palate to ransom... drink more - or suffer.
Garlic loaf - tasty as, mushies on toast - also tasty as.
Pride of Warminster - English IPA as, doesn't get much better than that, crisp, toasty malt with moderate hop aroma and flavour of a kinda earthy citrus feel, firm bitterness and a little chalky - stacks up great to style. Dunno weather or not this was the cask hopped version as I got the missus to grab it for me while I ran out to the car and didn't think to ask.
Emerson's Hoppy Porter - this beer is straight up awesome. Nicely acrid roast flavour with all the good supporting malt flavours, and a citrus and spice hop character - like a slightly more subtle version of PKB, YB's PKB may have some competition here ;-)
Bob Hudson's bitter - on form as always, hoppy as for what it is, fruity and citrus, with just enough crisp bready malt to kep it all together, and a nice chalky bitter finish. Glad I got a growler for the ride home.
I had Hoppy2Porter last night too... Not bad.
Renaissance Craftsman - awesome. Dry and so bittersweet.
Greene King IPA (rank!)
Jolly Pumpkin La Roja - excellent.
His Majesty
Duvel... probably should have gone to bed.
