Well, JamesP sent me up a bottle of it (Big Ups and many thanks!) and I have to say this is a beer that should be available country wide. I mean - it had a buzz on the forum: which I can appreciate. But after having a pint in the afternoon sun, I was left feeling empty! I thought if I drink all this, I wont have any left - and I can't just go and get more.

I've got 2 questions here.

1: Are there any more beers out there that you think should be available to buy nationwide?

2: How many people think they can brew a beer like this at home?

I mean - I did a gravity sample and it attenuated to 1010 and I considered the following as it applies to homebrewing: (a) this is a well fermented beer, (b) the percieved bitterness is fantastic! My first mouthful was a hit of upfront bitterness - then I knew I'd be impressed with the rest: and I was and (c) the malt in there was noticable too: it was indeed a fine ale. I coldn't fault it at all it was as good as any I've had in the world!

hence my enthusiasm....
1. To be honest the Twisted hop's Golding and challenger i think are also phenominal beers and wished it didn't take a trip to Chch for them. I'd also say bob hudson, bellringers and bitter and twisted from Galbraiths.

2. Nope, no chance
I assume the hops are imported from the States too. I don't blieve that I've tasted a beer with the same characteristics as this in NZ - apart from Epic, and Armageddon. Mmmmmmm Armageddon.....
Cascade & Chinook, so yeah.
They do grow Cascade over here: so I wasn't sure. I tasted cascade in there - but it was oily and more stone fruity than what we get in NZ cascade.

Man what a beer! Who wants to meet up in Chch next year foor a drink?
ROAD TRIP! Simlar to the USA beer trip! All the craft brewers on the way.
My pleasure, we have to share in the wealth that we have available locally.

Epic on tap... the lager as opposed to the Pale Ale as I had a bottle on Friday night and it had a flavour that I have yet to figure out... It wasn't as good as my first bottle of EPA.

I'm also partial to Wigram's Vienna Lager!
James has pretty much answered the questions, though I'd be keen on being able to get Galbraith's Grafton Porter any day of the week too. New Zealand's most under-appreciated beer...


Sean - the brewer at The Twisted Hop - is worth his weight in gold. I've not tasted a bad beer that he had made, his seasonal beers are always phenomenal (or very close to it) and he made the move from UK malt to NZ malt as good or better than anyone else.

He's got good employers, who are just as good at what they do in the business. I hope they can remain a team for a long time.

It wasn't fizzing? I didn't notice - I was too wrapped up in the flavour. Oh well - it's all gone now.. time to plan a road trip!
