I've started bottling using a capper with good success on my last few brews.

Keen to try some NZ bottles, anyone tried Macs they just look not quite as strong?
Bud and Moa bottles I've used and work well...
Any that don't work or explode ? Cheers

I have used the odd macs one here and there but they definitely seem thinner glass than the Moa ones for sure. Have had no explosions with the macs ones bottle carbing with standard ale C02 volumes.

Asashi glass tends to be the thickest and darkest I have come across however the thicker glass tends to mean a smaller neck ID so hard to get bottle brush down the neck.

From memory NHC will not accept Macs bottles due to them being notorious for exploding (rule 4.2 https://nhc.soba.org.nz/pages/rules)

Most typical NZ craft brewery 500ml bottles are good.

Yep - NHc stopped alowingthem because they had a few crack open atthe very visible seams.

Thanks for the tips...got some Moa and panhead bottles as well which I'll try. The 500ml Grolsch swing tops hold up well too.

Check your Grosch bottles - they might not be 500ml - mine are 465ml.

Also remember the possibility of light strike with the green glass...

The old swing top sawmill ones are good - fortunately they are no longer doing them.

Cheers

Rhys

Had great success with mac's and the old export dry bottles
That's interesting! I tried just a couple of Macs on my recent brew so can report how they go in a few weeks.

Before I kegged I used the 500ml Emerson's bottles. Drank a lot of pilsner and ipa to get 50 odd bottles. They're a really nice size being a decent volume and quite short so you can fit them easily into fridge shelves unlike long necks.

If you're near Wellington I no longer need them and was meaning to flick via trademe but have been too lazy.

Good to know I started collecting the craft beer 500mls bottles too as find they are just right size for both drinking and storing...pity I'm up North otherwise would have taken those off u
