Looks good.

Have a 2.5L Starter of 1469,  had to turn the spin plate down, it was about to climb out of the flask

I brewed the recipe of this from the Graham Wheeler book, very similar to your recipe but without the crystal or wheat - turned out excellent. Definitely one of my favorite bitters and one I always try to drink on cask when visiting UK.

It is a fantastic beer.

They suggest the 100% GP is the grist, but it appears darker, i believe some if caramelised. so your dark crystal isa good addition, but melanoidin is probably a little more appropiate.

should be tasty none the less.

Tilt reckons run off 2L of the first runnings and boil it real hard on stove top, add back into the boil near end....

I may do that yet rather then the crystal....   may drop the wheat as well

I need a trip to Galbraiths for inspiration.

nah, i like the idea of the wheat in your recipe.

It is a wonderful beer. The classic recipe is 100% Golden Promise, but that doesn't seem to work on a homebrew scale. The closest I got to the real beer was by taking 2 litres of wort and reducing it down to 1 litre, then cool and add back in. There is an interesting caramel note that I'm not sure you'll get from Dark Crystal.

Martin

yep that sounds like the one.

just saw your reply, seems a trick to try.....

dropped the crystal made a 2L -> 500ml toffee from first runnings....

don't take your eye off it...

stuck with wheat , thanks Rob,   its  very happy at 17.5C in my shed and its taking off....

airlock smells good.

Love that yeast!

I'm nearly done with a Brown porter on this yeast.

Smells so estery and fruity, pears/stonefruit etc. Love it.

Fermenter is inside again at 19C and I will probably warm it up a bit for a D rest in a days time, thinking what to repitch will be,  thinking an ESB , researching recipes.
