Hey, so I'm thinking about getting a 2L conical flask off labwarehouse.co.nz for yeast starters, but because I'm a tight student I really don't want to pay half the cost of the flask in shipping. So, does anyone in ChCh want to get something from the Lab warehouse and combine the order and save on shipping?

I just rang nzmagnets.co.nz & magnets.co.nz. $5.50 or $6.95 respectively (+ gst) for the 12 x 5mm rare-earth magnets. Why'd I think they were a lot cheaper than that... so, looks like its back to old hard-drives.
These could be an option from Jaycar:

Packet of 4 10mm x 3mm

$14.50 a packet.
I,d stick with the round magnets if I was you, I spent many hours playing with hard drive magnets and found it quite difficult to keep the stir bar spinning on course, I found it diificult getting the magnet centred too.
Before you glue the magnets make sure they dont interfere with the fan and stop it from spinning, I had to use a thick washer on my 120mm fan which did the trick.

Hey Dan, where did you get your 200ohm potentiometer in the end?
Off trademe!
The guy selling it told me I would destroy it by using it for what I intended to, its done hundreds of hours now and works great, I was also given another type from Horace off the old forum, it did the job too but was more fickle to deal with.
I dont know what this pot would normally be used for, it turns 10 times and is quite accurate I guess.
This was the pretty much the auction:

Precision 10 Turn Potentiometer 200 ohms

Brand: Contelec SA (Swiss) Model 2310 (200 ohms)
Yep, same seller too.
Thanks Dan, another question is all your wiring direct or via a PCB/circuit board?
Direct
So are we going to have a build off in the next week or two? James..I need to collect the glassware from you..Would next week during lunchtime some day be okay?
Probably next weekend for me, although I don't have a soldering iron here!

Next week is fine, just let me know what day, as I normally bike to work... not good for glass flasks! Alternative is to catch up after work / on weekend?
I reckon this 500ohm pot from jaycar would do the trick $2.70..

Cant find 200 ohm ones anywhere in Dick Smiths or jaycar.
