I have purchased a Keg King regulator to use with my kegging setup, and intended to replace the 6mm output included with the regulator, with a 5/16" (8mm) output, as that's what all my other gas fittings are. I bought a 1/4" NPT to 1/4" MFL ball valve to put into the regulator, and a swivel nut barb to put onto the ball valve. The thing is, the ball valve is tapered thread, and the threads cut in the regulator are straight. This means the ball valve only threads in a few turns. The fitting that came with the regulator is for use with a swivel nut barb, but is not an MFL fitting, so I cannot put my 8mm barb onto it.

What I need now is a 1/4" straight male threaded piece (which ends in either an MFL or 8mm / 5/16" barb) to thread into the regulator. Is there anywhere I can purchase this in New Zealand? I have purchased one from Ebay, but that may take a couple of weeks to arrive...

Can I ask why you're using a ball valve?

Why not use a standard 1/4 8mm socket and run your gas lines from that?

I run a dual port socket from my regulator which is 1/4" BSP to the regulator and two outlets.  I run a push fit plug in one if its not in use and the other one runs into the fridge and use a ball valave at the fridge to close that off if I need to take the bottle somewhere.

The plugs are awesome and cost cents.  There are also tube caps which do the same but close a tube instead.

Good to pick a single size tube for everything too btw, 8mm is the way to go I reckon.

Sorry no idea where to get the piece you're asking for though, you could try ANZOR or Pipeline industries.

I bought the ball valve because it was a way of converting the 1/4" threads on the regulator to an MFL fitting. Having a ball valve there was never a necessity (as you can just turn off the gas) but it had a check valve, and it didn't cost much... The description on the ball valve listing page said it can screw into a reg body, but I guess the reg they stated has tapered threads instead of straight threads. My reg body has straight threads and plastic seals at the end of the threads.

I was going to use 3/16" (5mm) for everything, but some of the gas fittings I wanted were 5/16" only, I believe. I didn't want to use 5/16" for beer lines, as I'd need unnecessarily long tubing runs for that.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will check those stores out.
