Hi guys,

Thought I'd just update you on beer availability around town.

Pomeroys in Kilmore St have a good tap range. In addition to the Harringtons beers they have Emersons Pilsner, Tuatara Hefe, Invercargill Pitch Black and Smokin Bishop for a limited time. Beer of the month at the moment is Captain Cooker from the Mussel Inn & for October is Yeastie Boys Pot, Kettle Black (the hit of Beervana). I also slip the odd Emersons Brewers Reserve in there - be quick, Smokin Gun lasted only 2 days!!!

The Thirsty Weta you have mentioned - 8 taps all constantly rotating and a Brewers Reserve occasionally too. You can get the curry from upstairs bought down

Bar 1066 at the Edgeware end of Colombo St have Bookbinder on tap.

Zymergy in Armagh St (opp the Vanilla Ices van) have 5 Emersons taps + 5 other beers that rotate. They are under pressure from the big boys to head 'mainstream' so need some support. It's there 1st birthday this weekend so feel free to head in. I'll hopefully have Steve Nally from Invercargill in there from 3-30 to 5-30 this Friday.

Supermarket-wise Halswell NW is a beaut. Fresh Choice Barringtons and Parklands have a decent range and NW South City & Stanmore are growing too.

Would be good to plan a catch-up with all Mainland folk -

Cheers.....Craig

I'm keen, however between recovering from being sick (food poisoning by the looks), and a pregnant wife whose blood pressure is up and down I may not be up for it for a couple of weeks.
I noticed that Emersons have released an Imperial Pilsner. It's on tap in Pomeroy's at the moment.
Yeah, the Pomeroys team have managed to free up a couple more lines so look out for a few more exciting things there in the future. Croucher Pilsner up next month. 2nd last keg of Yeastie Boys PKB is going fast too....
Though not 'in season' the Lighthouse Stout at Thirsty Weta is tasting fantastic. Greig may back me up - the one they got at Ruakura had some pretty good feedback.

Twisted Hop have a festival planned for early November. Some great 'rarely seen before down this way' beers to appear - namely Mammoth from Pink Elephant, a new seasonal from Renaissance to name but a few, joined by favourites such as Tuatara Pilsner, Epic Pale Ale and hopefully a northern 'real ale' guest appearance (fingers crossed). ChCh's very own "Big Day Out' lineup - stay tuned for more top acts to be announced.
Consider yourself backed up. It's tasting superb. It was described (lovingly) by a non-beer person as "really nice, like cold rich coffee". It's an intense and flavourful stout, with none of the burnt or over roasted flavours often present in "lesser" stouts.

That said, we mistreated it badly on Friday. We were so anxious to get the PKB on, we started buying large rounds of it, and drinking it in the style of students who haven't seen a keg party in two weeks. I was a little seedy the next day. And the worst part? We didn't empty the keg. Craig, I think you may have sent us one of those new TARDIS kegs. I hope the Time Lords don't come and get all up in your face.
Hopefully the PKB is in a tardis keg too.
Bugger, I knew I'd lost that tardis keg somewhere...!!! I could think of worse things than playing ducky fuzz with Lighthouse Stout.

In saying that, I had the pleasure of hosting a tasting on Friday night at a company in ChCh (names witheld) 40 staff that managed a good night playing drinking games in between lubricating themselves with:

Three Boys Pils & Porter
Epic Pale Ale & Lager
Invercargill Biman & Wasp
Croucher Pils & Hef
Tuatara IPA & Porter

I love a social club that subsidises it's members to be able to buy Three Boys for $3.50 and all the others for $2 a bottle...!!! The sight of multiple women clutching bottles of Three Boys was truely a sight to behold...!!!
I had a pint of Croucher Pils on Friday. It was a decent tasty pint. Washed down a burger just right!
Holy Moly,

Fresh Choice Merivale have obviously got a new consignment in.

I bought:

Timothy Taylor Landlord
Black Wych
Rambler's Ruin
Red Dragon

This weekend's all sown up for me. Get in!
I think you made up my menu for the weekend too! :)
Knowing you're a german beer head, they had Schoffenhoffer, Aventinus and a few more on the checkout-side of the display. There are also plenty of belgian beers, nothing that struck my fancy though.
Cheers, I think I'll head there tonight to have a look.

I maybe turned to the dark side for part of the weekend! :)
I spent literally an hour there today, unfortunately most of the stock of lagers were out dated (May08).

I ended up with an ESB and a Red Dragon. I definitely prefer the ESB.
