Was this the 'Deeble's Pale Ale' champion beer? Regardless, congrats on the win.

Sure was. I'm writing a blog with some more details about the beer now

Good stuff. Please let me know where I can find it once it's done!

Had my first crack at a Dusseldorf Alt for the next WBC over the weekend.

This recipe's a half arsed attempt at the Fish Eight Mile Alt from CYBI.  Half arsed because I changed the hops and ramped up the bitterness, munich malt and colour to shoot for a bigger version than the clone they were aiming for.

I'll be happy even if its a pale shadow of the real thing - its a great style.

Just bottled my second batch - did a 75IBU pale ale. Should be brewing again tomorrow.

Picked up one of those Imperial Stout all-grain recipe packs from brewshop.co.nz, but I'm going to have a bit of fun and throw some roasted tamarillos into the boil.

After all, why follow a recipe!

Brewing another blonde today. Trying my hand at fly sparging for the first time - it was all going well until I got impatient and increased the flow rates. Drove my efficiency WAY DOWN, so am currently boiling the shit out of it to get it to a reasonably starting gravity. Lesson learnt.

Just did the BrewShop.co.nz imperial stout all-grain "kit" - has worked out really well. Would recommend to those who don't have a mill and don't want to waste grain.

Craftbrewing.co.nz also does recipe kits including a home brew stout competition winner. I know this as l brewed it :-)
Also all our malts are sold in increments so you order only what you need.

Cheers
Darrin

Doing brew number 4 tonight, throwing down a Summer Ale. Still doing Extract brewing, but they are tasting pretty good. For those new to brewing, here's my recipe:

3kg Black Rock Light Malt

Hops:

60mins: 15g Fuggles
15mins: 15g Fuggles
5 mins: 15g Cascade

Batch size:18L

SG: 1045
FG: 1012
IBU: 22
4.4% ABV

Yeast: Safale US05 Dry

I posted this in the recipe advice, and made a couple of changes and brewed it today. I have big hopes for this beer.

This was the first use f my march pump, and it was wonderful using it. However, like a dumb ass I perched it precariously, it fell, and now no longer works. :(   At least I already moved everything to the boil I guess.

2nd Gen Thames Valley II Yeast

Will probably end up a wee bit hoppier than bobs. Had to dilute the wort somewhat as I ended up with 80% efficiency rather than my usual 70%. Much thanks must go to JT for passing on the yeast for this beer. Looking forward to drinking it in a few weeks time!

Hey Richard, did you make up a starter?
