Hi guys,

Thought I'd just update you on beer availability around town.

Pomeroys in Kilmore St have a good tap range. In addition to the Harringtons beers they have Emersons Pilsner, Tuatara Hefe, Invercargill Pitch Black and Smokin Bishop for a limited time. Beer of the month at the moment is Captain Cooker from the Mussel Inn & for October is Yeastie Boys Pot, Kettle Black (the hit of Beervana). I also slip the odd Emersons Brewers Reserve in there - be quick, Smokin Gun lasted only 2 days!!!

The Thirsty Weta you have mentioned - 8 taps all constantly rotating and a Brewers Reserve occasionally too. You can get the curry from upstairs bought down

Bar 1066 at the Edgeware end of Colombo St have Bookbinder on tap.

Zymergy in Armagh St (opp the Vanilla Ices van) have 5 Emersons taps + 5 other beers that rotate. They are under pressure from the big boys to head 'mainstream' so need some support. It's there 1st birthday this weekend so feel free to head in. I'll hopefully have Steve Nally from Invercargill in there from 3-30 to 5-30 this Friday.

Supermarket-wise Halswell NW is a beaut. Fresh Choice Barringtons and Parklands have a decent range and NW South City & Stanmore are growing too.

Would be good to plan a catch-up with all Mainland folk -

Cheers.....Craig

There's a pretty decent selection in the Harewood New World.

Rare Fare in Papanui have a good few english ales but are pricey

Was in Zymergy for the first time on Friday. I was impressed by the range but the 1812 seemed off. My mouth was a little knocked up by the RNA APA that's come on tap in The Twisted Hop
West Coast Brewing have opened a new pub in Papanui. Not certain what the quality of the beer is like though
If it's anything like the feedback I heard from the Wild Foods Festival, don't hold your breath......
I feared as much.

Will drop in there tomorrow for a brew just to confirm.

Looks like I'll be getting the bus to town for my Challenger for a while more
Mmm, Challenger... by the way, do they fill riggers at the twisted hop? I mean, I'm only young and riggers are a whole 'nother generation, but could I take say a 1.5L empty L&P bottle and get it filled? I'm off home to see family for the weekend and I really want to show the old man some quality beer... (i.e, not lager)
They sell riggers in there, with labels and all.
Pomeroys do riggers so you could get a takeaway Emersons Pils, Pitch Black or Smokin Bishop even.....!!!!!
Well, I cna confirm that Green Fern is average.

It's a weird weird bar.

On the stroke of the hour there's a little son et lumiere homage to the West Coast.
Sigh @ Zymergy. You'd think, with, you know, ALMOST EVERY GODDAMN PUB IN THE COUNTRY, the big bastards could just leave decent beer stocking pubs the hell alone. I mean, it's not like you have to stumble far if you really need that pint of Speights.

Good to see so much positive news though. Craig - Hamilton needs you! ;) Hamilton also needs Yeastie Boys.
Wow, when you said Halswell NW was a beaut, I didn't realise ho much so.

Beers from all the SI brewers:
Mussel Inn,
Townshends
Wigram
Harringtons
Three boys
Emersons
Invercargill

Loads of english beers

Great selection of cider too.

My wife offered to get one of her workmates to grab some bottles there and bring them into town for me. I declined on the grounds that I don't want either of them knowing how much I spend on beers!

I'm going to make a pilgrimage out there next week (might swing past Wigram while I'm there)
How's this for a plan?
We all gather at Pomeroy's for a few of theirs. & also book the private room and bring our own brews for a sampling.
Only catch is it needs to be a Tuesday or Wednesday (slow nights).

Or we can always tour the Halswell New World and drink in the carpark ;)
Not a bad plan at all.

I'd need some time to get some beers ready but I guess if we're sampling beers at Pomeroys we don't all need to bring homebrew.
