I have a very similar looking pot at 100 litre and its only 0.5mm thick. Good enough for a HLT that doesn't get much handling and cheap enough to replace when I do break it. Bulkhead fittings so they just get swapped to the new tank.
Drilling it was not problem and it flattened out to the bulkhead fittings nice enough.
Just pointed a couple of friends towards these as they are looking to make a new brewery each so will post if they go and have a look. Be nice if they have a good wall thickness.
So, an answer to the question on Trademe is
"Walls are the same thick like bottom 6mm"
Which I am having trouble believing... but if it is true they are damn cheap for what they are!
Anyone close to Papakura that could go and have a look at one?
Yea I would definitely be keen to hear from someone who's able to go take a look at them. If something sounds too good to be true it usually is ;P
Any luck finding that place?
Yeh, I am pretty convinced they look like my current pot which is more like 0.6mm all over. Comparing them to photos of actual Catermaster pots (can find on google) the handles are much different and so is the lid... but the handles and lid look exactly like my current pot.
Hahaha, if that 6mm walls was true I wonder what the "scrap" value of the pot would be. Might be worth buying them all and selling the straight to the scrap dealer! From the grammer in the reply and the fact that the 23 L pot would be close to 50 kg I'm going to bet on the actual thickness being 0.6mm
I'm still hanging out to hear about these pots. I'm extremely skeptical, but hopefully someone will take the dive and let us know.
I was a bit keen to get one but not sure as two people didn't receive their pots off TM so not sure if I want to put down money only for no pot to arrive.
hmmm look alot like the 56l pot I have... and its an about 4mm away from 6mm..
could be a different model though.. that said it works fine above my gas burner... a bit of discolourisation on the bottom.
Wish someone made these with copper bottoms.. that would be nice.
Wow for that price I'd rather get the a Blichmann for a bit more coin: http://www.inibrewsupply.com/boil/
Converted keg on Trade Me, someone could upgrade their boil kettle very easily. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=492758246
This could make a pretty good value, durable kettle: http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=495237173 Has some handles welded on, with the top lopped off probably more like 40-45L when full.
