Brewing Apps for smart phone

I've just purchased a Samsung Galaxy 2 smart phone.  I'm keen to load it up with brewing apps. Its android based so any ideas?? I've search the database  for discussions on any brewing apps but only came up with iphone stuff and in 2010 (i'm thinking there may be newer stuff out there). 

Do folks load brewing software on to them?

I got a brewing app for my ipod before i got proper brewing software(beersmith) for my computer. It was a waste of time if you ask me as beersmith was so much better. I hear beersmith are currently in the process of making an app but i would recommend buying the software for your computer.

I'm a dirty iphone user, so can't tell you what's out there for Android, but what I can tell you is that you're better of "recipating" (OK, so it's a new word...) on a pc and keeping those things you really need on brewday on your phone - think notes for the basic ingredients, salts, etc, calculators for stuff like boil off, dilution, yeast pitch rates, and maybe a nice brew-timer with mash stages, hop additions, finings, and other things you might need. THAT's the stuff I like to have on me at all times.

BREWR is a basic one I have tinkered with. Its okay to use but no where as good as BeerSmith or BrewMate.

 

Problem with Brewr is that to brew you really want either the phone with you whilst you brew or someway to print it out.. may uas well use a PC then.

I use Brewzor for its calculators; the mash infusion one is handy for step mashing. Brew Timer is a good countdown timer with alarms for each event during the boil. I'm with Greig though- I like to have my recipe calculated well in advance and only use apps for working out minor changes on the day.

Brewzor looks pretty handy for the brew day.

Whilst kinda on the subject i came across free software lenux based called Brewtarget for putting on my PC. Any one used it? Does it do the job? Or is it worth spending the coin on beersmith?

I had a play with BrewTarget... did not like it much.

 

If you are after free brewing software then try BrewMate.  I've been using it for 3 years now.

I'm not sure the developer of it is still updating it..  but it is easy to use, has a pretty good brew-day calculation sheet and is fairly easy to add new fermentables, hops etc to when required.

The only big draw back on it is that it doesn't support the vast array for mash/sparging types that BeerSmith does but it is easier to use than BeerSmith.

I use on my iPhone the alcohol calculator... a bit lame, not quite a brewing software app but..
