A couple of friends and I have been talking about how it would be interesting to see how good a beer people can come up with in the 3% range. We've decided to give it a go and invite any of you who might be interested to try your hand at it and bring it along so we can all try it out. No formal judging is planned at this stage, just crowd-sourced honest opinions.

febs fine, novembers fine too. I'm happy to host any time as well, but I live in a shithole so...
Personally, because it's just a fun little comp I don't mind if some are identifiable, the beers are all so wildly different anyway that judging can't be taken too seriously, right? but that's just my thoughts on it, happy to do either.
Yeah, in terms of seriousness of competition I see NHC > WBC > Limbo so I'm not too bothered about some beers being identifiable. Mind you, I wasn't 100% sure about spotting mine on Saturday! More jugs would probably be better tho.
Bring-a-plate was a great idea. In the summer we could always throw a few saussies on the BBQ too.
Well mine was an attempt at a lower SG version of my successful SMaSH brews:
3150g Maris Otter
350g Rolled Oats
Mash at 69C
90min Boil
20g Styrian Goldings (4%) @ 60min
15g Styrian Goldings @ 45, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 0mins
W1335 British Ale II in 22L
OG 1038
FG 1011
IBU 23ish
ABV 3.6%
The oats really didn’t give the intended body, and if anything added a slight sour note and tons of trub made it through to the fermenter.
Tastes somewhat better direct from the handpump rather than via the jug, but a deserving 9th out of 10 nonetheless. Hoping the remaining 12L improves with some secondary!
So, who's got entries in for the next Limbo at Martin's place? Might pay to reply to the thread over there to let Martin know how many to expect.
Or they could even RSVP to the event.
Limbologists, I've started a new discussion re the upcoming 3rd Limbo competition: http://www.forum.realbeer.co.nz/group/limbo-beer-comp/forum/topics/...
Next Limbo Comp date is 8th September. In Birkenhead.
Keep an eye on the 'group' page for more details or to register you interest.
Cheers
