Is yours the one with the tape around the lid Mike?
That's the one.
You did say it was a bit busy, and I tend to agree but I was firing it down with great abandon. Had to slow down and remind myself I only had the one.

Maybe cut down to only 9 malts :o)
Pours with a thick tan head with awesome lacing, aroma of candied strawberrys, chocolate and roast, thick creamy mouthfeel, mega creamy!! Bitter dark cocoa aqnd chocolate with a roasty finish.. A little bit muddled, but a good beer none the less :oD
Had to guess which beer this was! Had no ideas before I opened it, but at least the colour as it poured gave me some clues!

Usual disclaimers - not read any other notes. Decanted into a jug then poured into a pint glass.

Pours very black with flecks of red. Pillowy tan head, sticks around fairly well.

Strong coffee aroma, but maybe with hints of chicory (remember Camp coffee liquid??). Hints of sweetness on the nose too, if that's possible. Vanilla maybe?

Rich, full mouthfeel. Coffee again comes through very strongly. I would almost have thought that there WAS coffee in this beer. Not astringent, plenty of richness there. Roastiness level is more porter than stout to me.

Long finish, where the hops finally assert themselves with a lingering bitterness, jumbled with hints of chocolate.

Lovely lovely beer Mike.
The recipe looks experimental but I think the beer turned pretty well. Tasted good, I liked it.
Pours a really nice deep black, with a tight tan head that disappears fairly quickly.

Roast and chocolate on the palate, but still has enough body to hold it all up. Great body and mouthfeel, very smooth and silky.

Very moreish, enjoyed this a lot and could easily have had more.
Creamy black pour with silky looking tan head.

Little bit muddled in the taste but fairly roasty, hints of coffee and chocolate. Surprised there is no roast barley in this, something a little harsh in the flavour which I thought would be roast or black. Some hoppy flavour coming through too, didn't pick up much on the nose. Firm bitterness, really good mouth feel, very creamy.

Good beer for a rainy Wellington evening.
Damn Mike if this is a bad beer I'd hate to see you on a good day.

I had no idea what this beer was, I had to check the forum. But I knew it was black and I wanted a dark beer.
Decanted into a jug then into a pint glass. Thick and viscous, it's almost like you start pouring and seconds later it tumbles into the glass.
Pours beautifully bright clear but once it's in the glass it's inky opaque black. Can't see any sign of my kitchen halogens through it. Blacker than a lump of coal up a coal miners ass at midnight.
Dark tan head that is stuck like glue all down my pint glass.
Roasted malt and coffee on the nose with some dark caramel and a hint of pine.
Super thick creamy mouthfeel, fairly sweet to start with but with a fairly big bitterness that is mostly roast and partly hop. Finishes clean with enough bitter roasty left to make me want mouthful.

I could drink this all winter long.

Cheers Mike, awesome beer. Feel free to send me any more of your abortions.
