I'm going to Melbourne 14th to 19th. Any beers / brew pubs I should seek out?

Also going to the states around August woohoo!

Pick up our hops while youre there? ;oP

Post up a thread on AHB tho bro, theyll point you in the right place!

Edit : I think theres even a website with tour stuff that has its own beer section I recall, read through it on AHB once, thats the best place to look mate.
Yeah - you should look into this seriously.
you mean bringing in hops? bit of a hastle at customs tho innit? More likely to bring myself back a mill!
Luke bought back 10 kilos of hops in his suitcase from the States. All you need is a declaration from the Hop Supplier, and Declare them on Arrival with Customs.

It should save quite a considerable amount of money.
will look into it
Just for the record: I bought 100gm each of Chinook and Simoce pellets back from Aus. Had no dramas without any paperwork (although we did spend about 15min whilst customs seemed to load us onto some sort of database).

Serendipitously, I was just reading this - http://www.beer-pages.com/protz/features/australian-beer-2.htm
Definitely make a trip (or 2) to Local Taphouse - great pub and great selection.

I would also suggest having dinner at Cookie. Really, really good Thai, and a massive beer menu. Need to book in advance though.

If you there on a Wednesday or Friday night, the Mountain Goat brewery opens up their doors and have a bar there - suppose to be fun.

MOuntain Goat was fun...and freezing. There is also an excellent pub accross the road from it that has a great range of craft brews on tap. Cannot remember its name. Think it was the Royston. Also, Lambsgo Bar in Collingwood and no one has mentioned Transport or Young and Jackons. Both opposite Flinder St station. Transport has an excellent range and free beer tastings. Y&Js has the Matilda Bay range and is a gorgeour old pub.
I can recommend Young & Jacksons as well - interesting place to be around lunch time.

Wasn't so lucky with Royston, hiked all the way out there for lunch, only to find out it was the one day it didn't open until 3pm!
some great leads...thanks guys....hoping Barry will chime in too as he was there recently?
