Planning the tun drain using SS mesh tube. However I'm unsure how long it needs to be. I was thinking of coiling about a meter on the bottom, but would the adversly affect the flow of liquid throught the grain bed?
The one Jo made for me is just circular, probably just over half a meter long. Works great too. But I'd say it all depends on the size and shape of your mash tun.
I believe a few people have tried it / use it, and I am sure there are a few posts including photos on here explaining how to do it, or ways it's been done. (Yep found the photos) Dale's Nick's Mine
With the tap fully open I can run 6~8 litres a minute. For a long time the extraction was low due to running off way too quickly, efficiency in the low 60's. Slowing run off to between 1 ~ 3 litres a minute can produce an efficiency in the mid to late 80s.
I think my ring is a touch smaller than the "best" flow rate/ coverage from Palmers HTB designs.
Yeah I had originally thought of a double ring, and for all I know it probably has it's advantages. I'm guessing that would be similar to Nicks one that he got from Liberty.
Sometimes there is such as thing as too much brew porn in one night.....
Your local decent hardware / plumbing supply store that stocks them. Mine was Mitre10, but I understand all the ones in Wellington are in receivership now.....
It's a water hose wrapped in stainless braid.... like from the tap to the toilet cistern to make it look nicer...
You need to make sure you get the stainless steel and not the stainless coated plastic. Get it home, cut the attachments off the ends, pull the hose out of the braid, presto.
