I'm a moderately experienced extract and partial grain brewer who's been brewing on and off for a few years. I feel like I'm ready to make the jump to all-grain brewing, but feel a bit intimidated by the various equipment options (or lack thereof) available here. I see so many custom built systems that are no doubt inspiring but possibly above and beyond what I would need for my initial foray into all-grain. The only commercial options I've seen are the 2 false bottoms available at craftbrewer. I'm curious if there is a specific commercial option or set of plans for building a system that any of you would recommend for someone in my position. What's the best way to go here in NZ? I'm comfortable building something (as long as it doesn't include welding) if that's the recommended method. I also realize that I'll probably be using whatever I end up going with for a few years, so I would like it to be durable and not too amateurish. Any thoughts?

Cheers

I have seen the round chilly bins that the false bottoms go in at Plastic Box.  Not that cheap but nice and easy.

Best way in my opinion:

Use the batch sparging method

Rectangular Chilli bin, 50ishL

A bunch of brass fittings

A ballvalve

A braided stainless hose

Not the flashest looking set up but reliable and works great, cheap to set up also.

"Not the flashest looking set up"

Mate, everyone knows if you want a flash looking set up you need to go with the bag ;o) bahaha

This might be what you're looking for mate - simple easy and cost efficient way to move to All grain, no lauter tun needed!!

Easy until you have to drag that fucker of a bag out of the pot.  Sticky toes much?  ;-)

"Sticky toes much?"

Shhh, that was our lil secret :oP bahaha

This is what I'm using. I'm by no means an experienced brewer, but it's working very well for what I want, and it's cheap. Just like me.

No link?

Nah, I mean exactly what you described - chili bin, stainless braid and a handful of fittings from blackwood paykels.
Oh yeah, this forum software gets confusing.
