Hi all,
Am brewing an ESB and want to use goldings hops for flavor aroma and dry hop. Just not sure which ones? East kent, NZ or NZ Styrian? or a mixture? Im interested to hear others hopping schedules for this beer. I want it to be reasonably traditional as i intend to enter it in NHC.
Im bittering with Motueka if that makes a difference.
Cheers
BJ

I'd go for EKG (if you can get some) that is very much the authentic flavour. NZ Styrian isn't bad as a 30min addition either... EKG is great at the end IMO - but I dont make a hell of a lot of ESB...
Yup, I have to agree, If you want to authentic to style, use Kent goldings.
just found out my LHBS is out of EKG. They have got challenger. so i might use taht for flavor and one of either styrian or nz godings as flameout and dry hop. thoughts?
See if they have target, that pops up as well.
LHBS?

Two most common brewing acronyms it seems haha.
maybe too late, but challenger makes a nice beer. more bitter than EKG used in lots of famous UK beers. I'm not sure about the motueka/EKG mix. EKG might completely disappear in all that bitterness. Depending upon how much you use of course.
I see there is some organic NZ cascade whole hops out at the moment
