During my most recent foray into BIAB, I realised that my pot is way to small. (It is only 17L)

I saw a 40 Liter pot at Moore Wilson, but they wanted around $145 for it.

Can anyone here recommend a place to get a pot that is around 40L for a reasonable price? Whilst making one out of a keg sounds interesting, I do not find full size kegs as being available very often in Welly. (atleast on trademe.)

Cheers!

Naaaaaaaaaaah it would be fine.

I've been considering getting a custom pot made for my next one. I don't like how the large commerical pots are wide and shallow. Can't be hard enough to turn a sheet of stainless, punch a circle for the bottom and TIG it all up.
Where would one go to have a pot custom made?
Ohhh new beer porn, miniture gas fired Kettles!! with the chimney and all!!
You could get my flatmate to do it, hed be cheaper ;o) But the downside is were in auckland...

If you wanted to get one custom made locally id say most, if not all engineering companies would be able to do it for you, how much they will charge you is another matter!
Yeap, like Rev says.

Any shop that works stainless and is able to weld it shouldn't have any dramas. Probably a shop that works with larger stuff would be better equipped.

Big bucks though I'm thinking.
I am finding 40L pots to be pretty steep without custom fabrication. Take a look at this, $508!

I did find a 40L pot on Trademe, but the ad says, "buyer must pickup". Maybe this will work for one of you up North.

$508 for a 40Litre pot?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WTF? Thats insane!!
Yeah, all the catering supply places are steep as, but I'd assume they're good pots.

Me and Pilgrim got a pots off trademe, someone was importing them from China or something. While the stainless is pretty thin and they're a bit dodgy looking they're fine.

This is the seller, only real big bastards at the moment though.
You will need a pretty good quality pot to begin with before you think of modifying it. Needs to be a reasonable gauge to weld tidy.
Michael have you been in to petes emporium in porirua next to winz? last time I was in there they had some large ss pots in reasonable sizes/prices?
Custom fabrication will not be cheap the price of ss has gone through the ROOF in the last couple of years not to mention gas/welding etc!!!
Modifying a keg is the way to go for sure! let me know if thats how you want to go?
Cant agree more with what Arron said about starting with a good quality pot if you plan on any mods!
My pots a piece of shit and has held up pretty well to having three holes drilled in the side :-P Welded fittings are overrated anyway I reckon.

Acutally a custom fabrication cost would be fucking huge, that's not even an option now I really think about it, just buy a Blichmann.
Where are you in Welly Chris ... somewhere north of Ngauranga by the sound of it ?
