The recipe advice thread has tons of great information in it.  I have found the answer to lots of questions I would have otherwise asked in there.  Problem is its getting pretty big and is not that easy to find answers in anymore - and if you find the info you are after sometimes its hard to find your way back there again later.  Of course I could just ask the questions again but no one likes to give the same detailed information too many times...

I haven't been around these forums all that long and have not posted much so its not for me to try to tell you guys how to do things, but, do you think it would be better to give each recipe or beer style it's own thread?

Advantages would include easier searching; revised recipes could be posted close to the original recipe; follow up info on how the recipe turned out could be added close to the original question rather than 8 pages later.

There are advantages to keeping the thread going in its present form but I think by separating the recipe advice out into separate threads for each beer (or beer style) leaves a more usable resource behind.

What do you think?

JR - there is something similair set up in the groups - The Recipe Exchange Group, however that was more for finished recipes...

What if someones beer is 'out of the box'? Or doesnt have a style?

I can see pros and cons of your idea, it would probably be better in a group to keep it tidier...
Threads invariably take whatever tack, that people post on. I felt the recipe advise thread took over from the recipe exchange group, by many posting their recipes and asking others to offer their opinions. Nothing wrong with that but was that the initial intention?
I don't think it's a bad idea actually. I agree the Recipe Advice Thread is getting pretty massive, and this forum software isn't the easiest to navigate.

Style 23 ;-)

...was that the initial intention?

To me the Recipe Exchange thread was for 'tried and true' recipes. Sort of a place that you could go see a lot of recipes without too much conversation. That's the way I saw it anyway. I started the RAT because I'd often see people asking about substitute grains/hops or using our local stuff that there isn't always much info on. Also to just generally see what others thought of your recipe and provide any advice.
Style 23 ya reckon? So then that just ends up being a massive hard to navigate page (especially with brewers like Mike on here :P haha)
But it would still be smaller then the current RAT :-P
Only initially, give it time mate... lol
Yes Glen, I have given it a little thought also. Would it be too complicated to split the RAT or Recipes thread into styles. EG; pilsner, milds, APA's, etc, etc? That way poeple could post their recipes under those styles? Just a thought. Homebrewtalk.com, does this for example. It might be a way of tidying up the forum and making it easier for others to search out recipes, by style?

Your explanation, was exactly what I had also anticipated it being, Glen. My original comment above, was a bit more cynical, but I edited it. Considering I am hardly innocent of thread jacking.
