Yeah I did it It came out acidic and all but I couldnt shake the DMS, Boiled for half an hour to try get rid of it but it was pretty bad. I wanted to boil it all off but couldnt as I didnt want the beer turning out at around 40Ibu from the Mash hop. Next time if I do it with out a lactco ferment at the start and sour mash again I will boil for 90 and add the ibus at the 90 with something like Sauvin as if theres a beer for that hop for that is beer I reacon it would be that one for.
Good to know, did you use the Weyermann malts?

Guess it would be safer to use the culture and a 90 min boil.

Hmmmm maybe I should just chuck some roselare slurry into a low gravity wheat beer and see what it does, not traditional but could be tasty.
Weyyermann Wheat and ADM pils, Turbid mash could of helped maybe? yeah I reacon safer is better as it realy pissed me off knowing I could of fixed it but it would of stuffed it at the same time!! I Reacon or brew a use more grist for your brew and just dilute your first runnings for your First beer and use the weaker second runnings as you Berliner Wiess styled????? beer?
Yeah, interesting, partigyle...Standard hefe/wit with the first runnings, then berliner with the second.

Good thinking.
Went out to see Mike this morning to pick up a sack of golden promise and a few specialtys...

And then got home and just doughed in for my Munich/Amarillo SMaSH :o)
How much was the Sack of Golden Promise? After using a sack of Maris Otter, I have to say that Golden Promise is still my favourite.
Price has gone up to $3.50 a kilo, but could be worse I guess? Im the same, have allways favoured golden promise over any other base malt!

BTW, just added the FWH, garage smells awesome instantly :o)
It depends on your recipe makeup I suppose, like - with 1968, making an ESB, Maris Otter probably would be perfect. But with us-05 and heaps of hops, I dunno. In big beers, I think it just takes longer to condition for whatever reason.

Golden Promise has just given me years of consistent results... but it doesn't hurt to try new stuff. I'm picking up a sack of Koelsch Malt this week, I'm looking forward to using that.
Care to sell me 5 kilos of Koelsch malt? :o)
I could swap with some Golden Promise...?
Hmm... Ill have to have a think about that one.. Ill let ya know :o)
$3.50 ain't bad at all.
Liberty is about 30c more SOBA members and even more for the non-blievers...
Actually, it's getting up close to $3/kg just to get it to my door so you're doing really well there.
Mike may be able to drive out to get his, which is nice. Liberty's usually comes from Chch, sometimes Akl.

They're all superb pale malts though - GP, MO, Pearl. I don't use anything else and don't really prefer one over any other. They're all good in their own way.
