I cheated!!! I lowered the OG and Bitterness to get around 7.5-8% alc not 8.5-9% now that would be hard!!! Its bubbling away now 1hr lag big pitch rate of 350mls of yeast. Yeast was all good as I sampled the beer it came off and was very nice!! Hopefully It will be ready to drink end of April!!
That screwed me for a minute....I thought I was all over the pilsners and lagers in BJCP... thinking my taste buds had missed the boat on a magic festival of bitterness and aroma.
Alas it was not meant to be a style, rather the naming of a pilsner that is going to attempt to peel the enamel off your teeth one layer at a time, and probably succeed.
See to me that still sounds appealing :o) I miss my hoppy ridiculously bitter beers, I just havnt been able to make one quite the same since I started using software, the numbers scare me off.. So with my Cascade APA I didnt do any calcs, im just gonna hop(e) for the best ;o)
5.00 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 88.5 %
0.65 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) Grain 11.5 %
1 Pkgs SafAle American Ale (DCL Yeast #S-05) Yeast-Ale
Making it because I'm obsessed with caraaroma and wanted to try a beer dominated by its flavour. Not sure how to hop this beer though have got some target and loads of fuggle, would this beer taste better hoppy or malty? or both??
So you used cara-aroma not dark crystal?? I love cara-aroma :o)
I havnt used target so cant comment, but I reckon fuggles would work really well with that grist, nice and earthyness to back up the malt.. I reckon a good balance between malt and hops would work well imo :o)
