CDJ Brewing, or somthing similar (CJD maybe?) in Christchurch - who are they? Saw some bottles of a cherry porter on the shelves by them, and also I think a cider - any clues?
No, wasn't sure of 'pedigree' and was on a mission at the time for some Tuatara for 'research purposes'. But now I know what it is, we have a free pass for an hour on Sat night (ie babysitter coming earlier than we need) so I think it might be off to Poms for us!
KJD Brewing are brewed with Dicke from the Dux De Lux and have a cider and a cherry porter on the go as far as I'm aware.
The Eve Cider is unveiled on tap at Poms tonight and I had a pint of the Cherry Porter there last night. I really liked it, lots of cherry notes on the nose and a nice chocolate and latte malt body. Well worth a try IMO
I expected banana on the nose and after pouring into a glass with minimal head which disappeared within seconds I was actually pleasantly suprised to be greeted with notes of coffee and roast on the nose, sadly followed by a thin watery mouthfeel and a coffee like finish. All in all pretty average, the nose was the best thing about it but half of the glass went down the sink.
Wanaka Brewski, about 5 years ago, was my number one NZ pilsner by a country mile... it's been a long time though. I can recall it well enough to know that if it was at its best now, it would still be the best. Bohemian influenced rather than German.
Thanks Stu thats cheered me up, my mum brought me back a bottle of the Tall Black and the Brewski, havnt tried the brewski yet but after last nights experiance wasnt expecting much, now, im expecting a little more haha.. Might have to try it tonight, just to see how it shapes up!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... the bit i missed out was how it had, since, turned into a DMS bomb that verged on smelling like a homeless man. It's been a couple of years since I tried it because I had a few really bad experiences in a row.
