I don't know if it has been announced elsewhere, but it looks as if we have lost Dennis from the Dunedin Malthouse. There is a message on their website which says he passed on last Friday.

I have purchased a few times from DMH and each time Dennis was great in giving advice and getting the right ingredients, and provided a really efficeint service sending materials to Christchurch very quickly. Always a nice hadwritten note on the invoice. From my limited contact with Dennis it is apparent to me that this is quite a loss to the homebrewing world.

This is the transcript from their webpage:

Goodbye master brewer

Sad week for the New Zealand home brew world, our friend Dennis left his brew gear last friday. He was always present for our questions and shared his beer passion to erveryone.

Thank you Dennis

Always loved going to Dennis's store! like a child in a candy store I was, usually spent at least a couple of hours there on each visit. top bloke, very helpful at all times. a great loss to the brewing community down south.
Was going to go to bed but i,ll have another for Dennis!
This news is so upsetting. I can't believe that this is true... he was in such good nick. I made a special trip down to Dunedin especially to check out the store and meet Dennis in person after years of great telephone discussions. I loved the little brown paper bags he used to send the malt up in. I especially loved the fact that he went so far out of his way to get good quality yeast to the NZ homebrewers at a retail level.

To say I'm sad about this is a gratuitous understatement. Tears are welling up as I write this.

RIP Dennins.
That's a terrible shame. I can't say much more than has been said already, but feel I should add my voice to those here. I was looking to buy some malt co-incidentally, I think the Dunedin folk will have other things on their minds.
Jann told me that they were keeping the shop open, however Dennis' funeral is tomorrow, Thursday (so presumably closed then). I reckon that it would be good to keep buying as much as normal, as the last thing they will need now is a drop off in business to add to their woes.
