102 Quay Street, Auckland City (other end of the block from Northern Steamship Macs Bar)

When I first heard about this bar at the beginning of the year it was being sold as the Malthouse of Auckland.

Well since then they have signed a contract with Lion, and today I saw they have Lion Red, Speights, Summit, Macs Gold and Macs Black on tap.

But they are going to have Epic Pale Ale and Tuatara Pils first up on their guest taps.

I did a staff training on the Epic beers and some basic history on beer and brewing. Right after me Hancocks and Josh Scott were presenting the Moa range. Plus the staff told me they are going to have 110 beers. This will be interesting as I'm not sure they have the fridge space for that many single spacings but we'll see.

They are due to open end of next week I think but don't have an official date. But definitely for the week starting 1st June.

Well that is all I can offer pre-opening so we will all have to wait and see if they have the vision and passion that we have experienced at the Malthouse.

Cheers for the review Tony. I couldn't make it last night, but should be checking it out next Wednesday. Hopefully something other than Lion swill on tap then.
Reckon that's another possible venue for Yeastie Boys Sam? Be great to get some of that on tap downtown.
Luke did stated that Epic and Tuatara were on tap. Honestly, by the time I made it there I had had a few and I didn't notice all the taps. The usual Lion products were up front and clear, but my attention was immediately drawn to the stacked fridges, with the bottled craft brews. I also failed to mention, they have a really nice beer menu, listing all the beers (?). It's a really nice touch and looks very professional. I just hope they give the bar staff a bit more training in beer etiquette and beer in general.
Well they have three kegs of Epic Pale Ale which they have already paid for. If they haven't put it on tap then I'll be heading there to borrow those kegs back, as I am out of kegs for the next week.

How come I'm selling so many Pale Ale kegs in the last month? You guys are drink too much for me to keep up.
It's the recession ;-)
