Who has tried the new Supernova malt by Gladfield and what have you done with it? I tasted it at work today and its got melanoidins to it as well as some burnt / biscuit like taste, some sweet-ish taste and a lingering aftertaste. I reckon it will do well in Pale Ales ( English, American, NZ...). Brewing with it this weekend and thinking may make it shine through the use of some MuricanAleMalt with a low mash temp and a crisp NZ hop like NelsonS and Riwaka.

I used it last week. I'll post results.
Brewed a nice Pale Ale (Similar to the Stone Pale Ale) using this malt. ale malt and supernova, nice and simple 600g in a 20 litre batch.
Mandarina Bavaria/Mosaic/Motueka/cascade
sounds yummy
Here's hoping - I dry-hopped last night. so fingers crossed.
Have you had a taste yet? I'm keen to put some in a pale ale this weekend.
Keep your eyes peeled for Friday or aturday - I'll let you know.
TBH I'm not expecting a huge presence of it. given the hopping schedule.
is this aimed at being a Caramalt substitute?
No, this is similar colour to Medium crystal (60)
I've been told is caramelly without much sweetness a mate also told me its quite biscuity.
I won a kg at Finneys, so used it in the recently kegged PA, and then in a Hoppy Porter (Im trying to use up some hops....
When I chew it at work I get more like a crystal biscuit flavour.
Hi Che,
Yep Suited to most styles I think.
I've used it in APA (Silver Medal)
I've just re-brewed it with more classic American Hops as well.
Used in Porter, was good.
My friend used in a Scottish Shilling, I'm yet to hear results, but I have really enjoyed the results I've had from it. gives it enough malty background, without adding too much caramel sweetness. which is perfect for those hoppy ales.
