I'm using some 4kg max digital scales from Briscoes to measure my grain and hops but honestly don't trust the thing. And I'd rather have some that I don't have to replace the batteries. Also something with small enough graduations to measure hops would be nice so I only need one set.
What are you guys using? Anyone know any good deals, places to look, etc etc?
I think I use similar Scales: $50 digital from Briscoes. I'm happy with it. Hops seem fine - I weigh the malt 1kg at a time then tip into my hopper. I even weigh my finings with them. 1g incriments does the job. If you need less than 1g: weigh out 1g then cut it 5:1 with dextrose. Dextrose goes with anything!
+ 1 for digital scales from Briscoes (down to $26 on special). They go up to 5kg with 1gram increments. I did have/use a commercial scale (like the ones in supermarket deli) but it didn't like wet wort all over it...
You really need to think about the capacity of the scales you want, as the prices can be a lot more than Briscoes on special.
If you are looking for commercial, try Independent Scales their SK series looks pretty good @ 20kg with 10g increments, although they don't advertise price on the website.
Yeah, I got the $26 ones as well on special, might as well stick with them. Just was using them on Friday and they were shitting out when they got more than 2650g on them, but I think the batteries might be on their last legs.
