I have the forbidden fruit yeast in the fridge , very keen to see how this turns out for you.  What temp profile are you fermenting this at?

I should really keep track of that but never do. 19c or 20c I think. First time I have used it and only got it because brewhouse ran out of Belgian wit but very interested to taste the result. Its the first time I have forked out for a fancy yeast.

The Forbidden Fruit yeast is great, adds some interesting flavor to the low hop beer. The beer would have been really good if I had been able to get dried bitter orange peel, I used fresh sweet instead and just like when I have used lemon peel it left a yuck earthy taste.

The R2H56 on the other hand was fantastic its hardly old enough to drink and already the best beer I have brewed yet.

Has anyone been brewing?
I kicked 2014 off with a brew yesterday.
Gladfield Ale, dark crystal, a bit of toffee and some pale chocolate
Sauvin to bitter, Motueka and Styrians at 10 and 1
1036 with '05 and 25 BU
Should be a quaffer for Wellington Anniversary Day

Pretty much bang on for the style of a Munich Dunkel

Bottled in 2014 so far -

Cherry Wheat beer (trying to create a clone of Moa's awesome brew)

Chilli Irish Red - a basic Irish Red, infused with a few Chillies in the secondary

American Pale Ale - Based loosely on a Little Creatures Clone

The Yanky Sandwich - 3rd version of a Peanut butter Porter - this one has Raspberries added to the primary

Hi All,

First time poster, I am new to brewing currently conditioning an Mangrove Jacks Craft series pilsner.

I have a question about Cider, has anyone made this from supermarket brought apple juice as opposed to buying the concentrate you then water down to juice? If so what is the recipe and how did it turn out?

It was OK.  Not great, but not bad either.

Now that sounds interesting, I've been looking for a good gingerbeer recipe for some time so I'm keen to hear how that turns out!

Inspired by Tuatara Munich Helles my first 2014 brew will be a helles type beer
next up will be the James Nel Sav/Cascade Pilsner...

0.30 kg Gladfield Munich Malt (7.4 SRM) Grain 2 6.0 %
0.10 kg Acid Malt (3.0 SRM) Grain 3 2.0 %
0.07 kg Gladfield Aurora Malt (3.0 SRM) Grain 4 1.4 %
15.00 g Tettnangeer [5.20 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 5 8.1 IBUs
5.00 g Pacific Jade [13.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 6 6.7 IBUs
15.00 g Wai-iti [4.50 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 7 3.5 IBUs
0.30 tsp Irish Moss

5L starter of munich larger yeast wyeast

With the helles safely in the bag its time for a pilsner which can ferment alongside the helles making maximum use of the fridge...

This beer is from case swap 4, in 2009 when the following names where still homebrewers and swapping beer crates..

I recon its about 30 degrees in marlborough today, I have just mashed in an imperial stout and mowed the lawns. these may be factors blurring my judgement but as it is, right now in this moment, this is the best beer i've ever had!

This beer is good sheeeeeit.
Perhaps the pint of Liberty hoppy larger I had a while back was inspired by this beer?
