Looking for some glass beer bottles

Just starting off brewing and looking for reusable beer bottles before I resort to PET bottles. Happy to look at any quantity. I am in Auckland. Thanks, John

If you want some swappa bottles I just went to Liquorking (Im sure LiquorLand would do the same) and payed around $4 for a crate with empties and then took them home and soaked them in the bath in hot water. Then I soaked them in bleach and a fresh batch of hot water to get the remaining mould off.... Man there are some nasties in there (ciggies and gum are some of what I have encountered) so you need to sanitize pretty bloody well! ...oh yeah and you will need to buy a capper of some sort from your LHBS if you want to go to glass.

Thanks Chris I appreciate your quick reply. From what I have read, the NZ bottles are too thin to be reused. Are these the type of ones you got ? I was at a Japanese restaurant last night and got about a doz Asahi bottles which I had read somewhere were OK to use. Its all a bit confusing. Cheers, John

The ones I got were ex Speights, Lion Red or Waikato type 750 ml. They seem fine to re-use from my experience so far =)

Those 750 ml bottles are all good to reuse :) they re use them themselves after all! Standard 330ml bottles can be a bit sketchy. Asahi bottles are ok, but if you're using 330ml bottles you need about 5-6 doz for a batch! I use 500ml crafty bottles and 750ml flip tops, I'm moving to kegs pretty soon, will see if you still need bottles when I've got spares :)

The Stoke 330ml bottles are very thick, I save them whenever you see them. But my bother used to own a bar and every now and then I would go in and grab whatever brown bottles they had (monteiths, tiger etc) and sure they aren't think but I've never had one break due to carbonation (dropped a few on the floor, then they break good). As long as fermentation is stopped and sugar is worked out properly it should be fine.

Yea very true, i've got about 2doz 330ml Epic Pale Ale bottles i stripped the labels off of to use for bigger or more specialty beers. They work perfect, solid as a rock. I think the real issue is just the mainstream 330ml brown (lion red, tui, speights etc) can be dangerous as the glass on those is quite cheap and brittle.
