Anyone know if there is a press around Auckland that an intrepid brewer could bribe his way into using? I'm wanting to put down another cider / perry / thing while apples are nice and cheap.

Thanks in advance for any leads,

Richard

Steve at H told me once if you ferment pears it acts as a laxitive haha. So he said best thing to do is do a dry apple cider and back sweeten with pear juice.. Just an FYI.. Sorry I can't help you on the press thing. But I believe Hauraki home brew is selling them for some horrendous price!

Shudder... I bet they are.

RE the pears; really? I haven't heard that before, but it can't be that bad if it is a legitimate beverage... right?

Yeah idk, its just what he told me. But when you taste the macs and monteiths 'Perry' it def still has a cidery taste to it, with a bit of pear sweetness. So back sweetening may well be a possibility!

Andrew - Do you play any part in the Pear Cider coming out of Lion?? How's it made?? Spill :oP

I don't have much to do with it to be honest, but I know as far as legislation goes you have to have over 75% pears to call it Perry. Hence Pear Cider, not Perry. I've never heard of Perry giving people the shits though! Sounds like a worthwhile experiment, you get to drink and if it works you get a good clean-out!!

75% Pears to make Perry? What About Perry Pears? What about Maceration and Malolactic fermentation? Sorbitol gives you the shits and Perry Pears have in in bucket loads

Sounds like you have made to much Pear Cider and No Perry!!!

Do some research

Looks like I,m spending too much time tasting my CS beers and not enough time engaging the brain cells that tell me the difference between apples and pears.
