Does anyone have any idea what the Palmerston North water profile is like?

The best I can find is that it is hard, but other than that I'm at a loss.

Email or phone your local council who supply your water.

Any reply from PNCC?  I'm in Palmy too and have wondered also whether its worth adjusting PH etc.

I just heard from them. In my part of Palmy (Terrace End) it's supplied by three different sources at various times, and might or might not be a mixture of two different sources, although if you're brewing between 11 and 9 it should be coming from Turitea. I'm not sure how specific this is to this part of town though. I've attached the chart that the water engineer sent me (the three columns are different testing dates, taken six months apart), what it's worth.

I've put the Turitea numbers into the units used in John Palmer's book. From what I can gather most of Palmy's water comes from the dam most of the year unless you're in the newer suburbs. The bores have much more Ca and Mg.

Ca (ppm)

50.00

Mg (ppm)

28.93

Bicarbonate (ppm)

20.74

So4 (ppm)

4.70

Na (ppm)

9.70

Cl (ppm)

18.77

Looks like it suits malty light-mid coloured ales.
