About Me:
I'm a Kiwi originally and was a regular fixture at the Malthouse, Bar Bodega, and Bar Edward in Wellington during the 2000s before moving to Melbourne in 2010, right after Dom nudged Wellington over the tipping point and into full on craft centrism with Hashigo Zake. Tried to found CAMRA NZ in 2006 with Robert Owen, but after a soft launch at BrewNZ in 2006 (we wore orange T-shirts with "East India Pale Ale? Yeah right" printed on them) CAMRA sent us a cease and desist and we folded in and jumped into early SOBA. Old enough to remember when ale/craft in NZ felt like a weird underground cult that we were still desperately trying to recruit anybody who would listen into, but still young enough to be accused of jumping on the hipster zeitgeist bandwagon anyway. Original gateway beer was Emerson's Pilsner. From a craft perspective Melbourne is still like Wellington was circa 2007... but it's getting there.
