US-05 Response #3 - MMMMoMMft3CH... a Black IIPA - or something like that...

Tastes awesome... had to put it in a smaller glass to let the light through.

If I can get this after 1 days cold crash and 3 days in the keg I say that S05 is good but when I do the same with the S05 from 03/2009 from Great Expectations and get a cloudy beer three times in a row I know its not me!! I switch to a new batch bought in Palmy and im sweet come on!!!! What are you suggesting? Jt do you believe and still hold on to that there wasnt a bad doz yeast that came came from GE L Hutt? or you suggesting me and Mr Cherry are just lieing?

Alright, I've seen Fil tamper with the little pink bags in the fridge then, does that make you happier ?

I'm having dramas with S05 clearing too, a week at 0C, and now been another week in the keg at 4C and is still cloudy, I don't expect brilliant clarity but I'm sure it used to be better than this. I'm gonna switch to 1056 for a while and see if that changes anything.

No it just winds me up as I was them first to comment and start a post on how bad my beer was, that I started to wounder if it was someting I was doing wrong. But it aint. I would happly change anything I was doing in my garage to improve my beer. But at the end of the day I find out the only diffrence in the way I brew and get clarity is a diffrent batch of yeast. And someone still questions if there was realy anything wrong with the yeast?? What Will it take???

What Will it take???

Only buy yeast at a full moon - seems to work ok for me.
Comment by Mike Neilson on May 26, 2009 at 8:38pm
No offence but even if I bought that yeast on a full moon it would of produced cloudy beer.
It seems the yeast was no diffrent in the profile or attenuation the problem was with floccing. Is your beer clearer than mine? or do I have have Huge expectations of a yeast floccing to clarity?

What will it take? How about you all send me a bottle of your US-05 beers from now on and I'll keep an accurate record of clarity, batch numbers, etc. I'm sure that after a only one year of analysis I'll be able to come up with some solid recommendations.

Alternatively you could just stop buying yeast (or anything at all) from GE and forget about it. That's what I've done. Problem solved!

I had exactly the same issues as Mike around the same time he did too, with that batch - not from GE. Nothing in my process changed, and I brewed two recipes I've brewed a ton of times and seldom do they deviate. I'm backing you here Mike!
