Here is my beer for CS13. My first time doing a case swap so editing post with bit more info. I made this recipe to use up the kilo of citra and mosaic I bought and chucked a fair bit in. It wasnt my first choice I actually had a Waimea Pale Ale to enter but it turned out badly. This beer is about 6 months old and well past its prime but was the only one I had available for the swap Recipe below and all comments welcomed. I have your beers chilling at moment for this saturday where dry july can bugger off. Yes only the 25th oh well....

Hi Mark - Having a review of my notes from last nights sampling.

Appearance - Dark- Red/Brown - no clarity at all /quite cloudy (I'd left it in the fridge for a few days to settle out but it didn't). Head remained for a long time - nice and white and fluffy.

Liked the label - freaked out my kids a bit (so thats a winner!)

Aroma - Nice fruity that you get from Citra/Mosaic - even with this beer being 6 months old.

Taste - Slightly malty and a crisp bitterness on the tongue. Quite a bit of that alcohol burn from a high ABV beer. I've made an Imperial Red ale and it took about 8 months for that to go away.  Have you sampled as its aged Mark? I felt that hop taste was dominated by the heat from the alcohol - maybe earlier on it was more "hoppy"? Did the Citra/Mosaic stand out earlier? It would be interesting to see how it ages in the next few months (if you have any left!).

I like my beers fairly strong and hoppy so rate this beer!

Good stuff Mark - good beer!

Cheers

Hey Duncan, clarity has always been an issue and tends to affect my bigger beers more. Definitely it was very hoppy drinking at one month and I think the alcohol heat is standing out more than it did. I still have about 6 of these so will be interesting to see if the burn goes away with more age. Thanks for the feedback.

Mark

This one caught me by surprise, a lesson in reading labels is needed as wasn't expecting a double IPA.  Aroma was good and carb was on the low end but was enough, the alcohol heat stood out in this one.

Cant believe that this was9%, also  didnt pick that the ibus are that high, wife commented that it was sweet initially. For such a big beer this was very good, well balanced, yeah the carb is a bit light and the clarity is a work on but you have got the makings of an awesome beer. Plenty of alcohol heat but not the nasty stuff just warming. Be easy to sit down to a couple of these then realise that your legs have stopped working and you cant feel your cheeks. Good stuff, thanks for sharing

Cheers Peter, I was obsessed with big beers when I first got my GF. One thing I now know is to drink em young, more hops balance the heat. Thanks for your feedback.
