Hey guys I am just amping to get in to it but still at the "right" burner stage. I have a very good quality heavy base Stainless Steel 50L Brew pot, and need a burner that will bring the wort to a boil quick, you know what I mean....Don't want to burn the seals on ball valve eh? so what I have read the old 3 ring burner won't cut it, so what do you recommend please? Cheers.

I have done lots of 40L brews on both a 3 and 4 ring burner and its a bit slow but gets the job done, I only have a 2kg per hour regulator, wouldn't mind trying a 3kg one. What ever you use you want some kind of wind guard, it helps heaps, I just cut the top 30cm or so off a 44 gallon drum and sit the 4 ring in that. The dark star burner (and the other similar one) at http://brewtopia.net.nz/ looked like a good burner a pretty good price when I was looking at upgrading. They don't have them on the website at the mo but you could call and ask when they will have some.
The thing that put me off upgrading is I figured I could build a RIMS tube for not that much more than the burner upgrade then (as well as using it for RIMS) run the wort through it on its way to the kettle and reduce the time to boil that way.
and i guess if I have a stand that can have a mounted burner then maybe a Bayou from Fishpond? does your ring burner produce a blue flame or yellow and leave the sides all sooty?
Its a little bit yellow and sooty I never seem to be able to tune it to a pure blue flame while it has a pot on it. The soot wipes right off.
