Hi - some of you may know that we run regular showcase weekends at the pub. The next one is in July and I was wondering if there were any suggestions for beers we could feature. As the title says - winter ales, stouts and darks (or porters, altbiers or any other style that would suit).
We usually have 6 taps - plus the 3 beer engines if there's something suitable.
Well, Yeastie Boys' Pot Kettle Black should be out any day now (shouldn't it Boys?) so that'll be around. Hallertau has also brewed the NHC-winning Bring Your Daughter To The Porter, and perhaps Steve might be able to spare a keg of that? I would certainly love to do a side-by-side of those 2 beers, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to pull it off.
I've heard good things about the Emersons BR Hoppy Porter but not yet been able to try it (roll on tomorrow). Might be worth considering. Tuatara Porter is pretty tasty too, and the Twsited Hop has the seasonal Oatmeal Stout out at the moment. They might be able to send you some.
Sounds like a tasty weekend of drinking you've got planned
Some good thoughts here already...
Definitely the SOBA NHC winning Porter, it's a grand idea that Hallertau have taken up.
Twisted Hop Oatmeal Stout and their Brown Ale have always been stunning when I've had a chance to taste.
Pitch Black, for sure. A big little stout.
Brew Moon's Stout has generally been one of the better dark beers I've tried in the country (though it is hard to get in Wellington).
Galbraith's Grafton Porter... consistently my favourite 'local' black beer and a probably favourite Galbraith's beer.
If only I could be there... maybe i should just come. Any accomodation out that way?
When is the showcase weekend? I'm half thinking about driving up for this, given some of the suggestions here it sounds like a good weekend. This can be my beervana replacement, since I'm in the US when that's on
