I would really like to try growing a few hops at the house. I realise that I would not be able to produce enough for ongoing brewing, but think this would be an interesting effort.

Is this the wrong time of the year to start growing hops?

Do any of you have any hop rhizomes that you wouldn't mind a fellow home brewer having? :D

Yes, way too late for this season. Winter is the time to split/plant rhizomes.

There is a thread already where people have arranged to swap rhizomes and cuttings.

Probably best to ask on there when the time comes.

I've got 2 Stricklebract vines i planted in October and they've blossomed spectacularly ;)

You are welcome to plants of Mystery German,Smoothcone,Danscade and later down the track Sticklebract there brother Michael!

Or were you hoping for somthing more exotic? haha

Anything exotic enough to go with a Coopers kit brother Chris?

Coopers kits work quite well with braeburn or granny smith hops which I dont have - but they compliment the flavours the coopers yeast develops brother JT!  haha

Best improvement to Cooper's kits is some decent yeast. A Cooper's bitter kit, plus a Cooper's lager kit, (no sugar, makes 25 l) with a safale 04, then dry hopped with plenty of Cascade, makes a half decent ale.

Cheers. I will certainly do so!

I haven't scratched my 2012 Coopers itch yet Brother Chris, might have to get something organized for the next North Welly gathering

I have some Stella hops in my freezer for an Aussie pale ale. I'm thinking of using a coopers lager, 4 x coopers yeast, DME and some steeped light colored grain.

I guess I must brew an AG batch this weekend to put this Coopers nonsense to bed. ;)

It must be the time of the year to itch scratch - I've just grown up some yeast from a CPA and am aiming to pack some banana beer into bottles in a couple of weeks!

I'll be keeping the temp as low as practicable (16-18c if possible). I don't mind bananas but I don't want a whole bunch :)
