Thought it might be handy to have a thread for some of the more advanced brewers to give some advice on recipes.

Let's see how it goes eh...

All of this pilsner talk has got me drooling! damn that 8 week turnover time... ;)

Ohhkay cool I reckon as per Dougal's recommendations I'll up the bittering to 40IBU, add 5% Carapils, and go for a TG of 1.054. And yeah try some new tropical hops!

Good work boys.

Thinking about trying my first wheat beer this weekend, any thoughts on this recipe or any tweaks I could make to improve it?

What type of system are you using mate? 85% wheat malt will cause some very serious lautering issues :o The traditional ratio usually used is about 50:50 wheat:barley as far as I know

the trusty old brew in a bag technique, I haven't quite got around to sticking another couple of vessels on my brew stand

Ahh ok cool :) Interesting.. What yeast are you planning on using?

due to time contrants and me forgetting to order a liquid yeast i'll use safbrew WB-06

If you can get to Brewers Coop they have liquid yeast.  Should have some wheat ones to choose from.

I was going to order some online the other day when I got some grains and got side tracked drinking a beer and forgot, bit far to drive from CHCH, I don't think the excuse of shooting out for a quick beer with the lads would work for that one, might see if he can ship overnight so I can get for saturday though, cheers

Ah sorry mate, tonight is their late night so he's open still but I'm not sure what time the last courier pick up would be.  He might be able to get it there on a Saturday, would want to make sure it wasn't sat in a depot until Monday though.

sweet I will give him a bell and see, cheers
