What do people do when they find a recipe from an american website and see all the measurements in imperial? Do you convert it or do you leave it as is?

 

Not really a problem if you have the ingredients but when you need to order half pound (227gms) of this and a pound (454gms) of something else you find you need to round to the nearest 50gms for the order.

 

I'm just curious to hear what others do; convert, leave as is or fuck it, I don't have that problem cause I design my own recipes

Just buy the whole kilo and use the rest later, build up a stock of different malts and have a play

I always convert recipes to metric and round to sensible amounts.  Having said that, I virtually never use recipes as they are, I always adjust them to my liking and what I know about ingredients, substitutions, etc.

 

As jt says, I buy specialty grain by the kilo (or 2) and always have a stock various malts on hand.

 

Or just use the percentage of the recipe and round to the nearest denominator on your scales ... I round to the nearest 5gm

I would use the Imperial measurements, as they are clearly superior. ;)

 

In all seriousness, I convert back and forth all of the time. I would always end up ordering more than I need, then measure it myself to the correct amount. Afterwards, I would use the remaining ingredients in subsequent recipes.
