My first foray into dark beer has just started revealing its results. I wanted a beer that is like drinking an adult iced coffee. The recipe was as follows:

1.5kg LME (Amber malt)

1kg Dark, milled Gladfield chocolate malt

1kg Dextrose

500g Lactose

1 cup of quality coco powder

50g UK Flyer Hops

Craft Series US West Coast M44 Yeast

Yeast Nutrient

I may have thrown some dehydrated coconut in there, but dont hold me to it.

The malt was steeped for 60 minutes then sparged. Then added the dextrose, lactose+coco powder and started the boil; Flyer hops for 30 minutes then yeast nutrient at 10 minutes from flame out. Did all the other stuff, 19L etc, didnt take a hydrometer as i lost mine, fermented out for two weeks until i was satisfied fermentation had finished. Basically the end product was nice (shown above in gunniess glass that my mate swears he didnt forget to return to the bar), it has a good chocolatey tastes, basically like a super smooth chocolate milk, but with less body then id like from a stout/porter for this time of year. I had originally intended to use a coopers stout kit as well but couldnt be bothered driving all the way to papakura pack'n save which is the closest place that stocks it. Maybe I should have been bothered after all?

What do you think? I am happy with the bitterness from the hops (flyer are a really good hop i have found and at a good price as not many people appear to be buying it), and im not after a roasty flavour per se, but it lacks the body and a bit of the coffee flavour i was after. Maybe a coopers brew enhancer and infusing whole coffee beans? Cheers for any help on my first post.

Btw, i poured this one shown to have less head and more beer as the bottle would only just fit in the glass and i prefer beer to head (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
